If you wanna go really into it nobody has taken a MotoGP Championship on a Suzuki since 2000, its always Honda or Yamaha. They were out for about 4 years however. They do better in the Isle of Man TT but still nowhere near as many wins as Honda or Yamaha. They had a string of dominating the early years of the superstock category when it started but not since.

They're good bikes that are more finicky and prone to mechanical trouble than the big four manufacturers usually are, so a common joke developed about their unreliability.

I dunno if its still true but you needed specialized proprietary only for ducati tools to do engine work too, and the engines themselves had a lower service life than most other bikes.

Ducatis are not the only motorcycles who needs weird and/or proprietary tools. KTMs and Aprillias need almost constant shim clearance checks. BMW oil filters need a specialty tool if ya want to take them out, and I have to buy one of this to remove the oil plug. A 10mm hex bit for my torque wrench because all my allen wrenches where too small. Hayabusas are OK bikes if you commute on highways a lot but suck if you do city commuting. Also they are no longer the fastest bikes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LopMoV5ahqg
