the prequel trilogy he wrote (years later) is okay but going from that to the actual first book is horrendous bc his writing got so much better in the intervening time. it's unbearable.

I used to read the drizzt books until about the mid 2000s (had them all) and last year I went and bought all the ones that came out since then, there's so many. Hope to make a dent in them this year. I got into reading Dragonlance last year which derailed me.
