Movies are full of moments that can be turned into looping animated GIFs. My favorites tend to involve practical effects. And I mostly steal mine from Tumblr.

The Sword and the Dragon

The Fabulous World of Jules Verne

Bride of the Monster

The Green Slime

Africa Screams

Prophecies of Nostradamus

Let's post some good ones. And source the films!

Popular culture has passed you by.
Hell yes, gifs! I use Gifrun to make my own gifs and take the others from Tenor and whatnot, but making them with Gifrun leaves a big old watermark.

Shooting and Fucking
are the same thing!

Probably my favorite moment from any movie ever.

A group of political extremists planning an assassination huddle in their safehouse surrounded by darkness but as their plot falls apart so do the actual walls of the set around them.

Practical question: what's the easiest way to make a gif from a film on a streaming platform? They seem to block screenshots etc

If you turn off hardware acceleration in Chrome, you should be able to record some streaming services.

A Hobbit's Adventure

Aguirre, the Wrath of God
Maybe my favorite ending of any film.
"When we reach the sea, we'll build a bigger boat, and with it we'll sail north and take Trinidad away from the Spanish Crown. From there we'll go on and take Mexico from Cortés. What a great betrayal that will be! We will then control all of New Spain and we will stage history as others stage plays. I, the Wrath of God, will marry my own daughter and with her found the purest dynasty ever known to man. Together we will rule the whole of this continent. I am the Wrath… the Wrath of God. Who else is with me?"

RABBIT RABBIT

No other Godzilla movie ever got quite this terrifying. It's only a few years after the war. The monster is back. Tokyo is sent down to the flames of hell again. And you cannot wake up from this nightmare.

Inglorious Basterds (2009)

This gif has been going around Twitter as part of a discussion about best moments where a character realises something. It's one of my absolute favourite scenes in any film, the acting, directing and writing is world class.

I read a really fun theory on Reddit that Dieter Hellström not only knew that Archie Hicox wasn't German but also exactly who he was, and that the "three glasses" moment was actually the point at which he could no longer pretend he didn't know what was happening rather than him realising that he was a spy. The theory, for me, makes the scene even better.

I like that theory because it's like he's disappointed that this guy he knows from reputation only has hosed up so badly

That was my take on it, for sure. It's him realizing he was playing chess against a bunch of checkers players and calling the game.

Couple of old timey movie scenes I saw recently. I've put a bunch of these in the action thread too

Harold Lloyd, safety last . Hiding from landlady.

The General. Possibly the most dangerous stunt I've ever seen filmed, buster Keaton blows up a dam and this happens next and I cannot figure out how it's filmed beyond telling the actors to not drown

Yojimbo

Bahubaali

Chocolate

Wick 4

Rumble in the Bronx, when I saw this in my youth I thought for a long time 'I could be this guy, I could act just as badly'

It also explains why he picks a character from a German movie made during the occupation, knowing full well that Hicox won't have seen it and is going to have to bluff how he's German and hasn't seen a popular movie

That was probably it, early firearms stunts were done by hiring sharpshooters to intentionally miss their targets and hoping that the actors on the other end hit their marks.

Going back to gifs: Jurassic Park is one of my favourite movies, so here's my favourite shot from the film:

I love that it conveys the sheer scale of terror, chaos and unpredictability of the situation. Grant has no real way of knowing that this will actually work, but does it anyway. Badass.
