Incredibly psychotic stuff and one of the reasons I didn't do medical mechanical engineering. Absolute ethical hell. And you could probably hire willing human subjects who'd do it for the sedatives plus a little compensation. Not saying that it would be more ethical, but at least you'd skip the unethical animal testing part and go straight to the unethical human test part.
