Thanks, I really like the camera, and the chest mount makes it even better. I am thinking of dropping it down to 480p so I can get 60fps though, its a little stuttery in spots. I should have bought the HD instead of the 960 so I could have my cake and eat it too.

I mean, I get that it's substantially cheaper but it's missing a lot of what makes the HeroHD so good in the first place. Now that the HeroBus addons are coming out it's even further neutered. I've considered the chest mount myself actually, I'm just wondering if it would really mess you up in an accident if you land on your front.. I could see it doing pretty nasty things to your chest. I really want to develop a way to mount mine to the chin bar of my helmet, with the lens in the actual centre of the helmet. I think that just could be the perfect mounting spot..

I toyed with chin bar mounting, and just couldn't come up with a decent way to do it on a dirt helmet. I do have it set up like that on my street helmet. I am not to worried about being hurt by the chest mount in a crash, the base is actually quite big, and I wear it over a compression suit anyways.

I've spilled with my chest mount more than a few times and it's always come out OK. I feel like it's safer there on my chest than it is strapped to my helmet which is always being whapped by trees and the like.

Shelves and shelves of transmission cases and pistons and gas tanks, rows of frames hanging from rafters. He let me do some transmission work on my own bike at his shop once, (free) and even loaned me a spare transmission to ride about 1000 miles to a bike rally while mine was apart. Today was the first day of open practice at the local MX track, and the first nice springs day we have had, so what was I to do but skiv off work and go ride? It was muddy, really muddy in the morning. The kind of mud that just sucks you down and instantly slows you. This isnt good when you combine it with a guy who is about 40 pounds to heavy to be riding a 125. Fortunately the track dried out during the day, unfortunately I have already blown my top end by melting my piston ring to the piston. A combination of mercilessly flogging the bike and jetting a little too lean caused this: I noticed it was down on power, then it was harder and harder to start. The top end was toast anyways, so I put in a few more laps and called it a day, just when the track was starting to get really good. This video is my final lap, you can tell I was way down on power, but I still made her sing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hkF12HKPzE I headed back to the shop, washed the bike, and did a compression test. 45 psi cold, down from 185. I am surprised it ran at all. Replaced the piston and now I am ready to do it again on Sunday! mutt2jeff fucked around with this message at 04:21 on Mar 24, 2011 |

More motorcycle class photos! My BMW K75 front brake fluid reservoir looked pretty nasty! Having a pressurized brake bleeder makes it about a 15-20 minute total job for both calipers, holy crap I refuse to bleed brakes any other way, I may end up investing 120-130$ for one. It's pretty amazing what a difference there is in the brakes after, they used to squeek like crazy, the squeeking is virtually nonexistant now. Since the job took so little time I ended up tearin up a fairly derelict 89 Hurricane (actually the instructors bike), drained the radiator, pulled the carbs off which were SUPER hard to get off, we ended up needing pry bars to get them off the engine, I was able to loosen up the valve cover, but removing it completely is another story, a lot of other crap is in the way Another pic of the Honda CB360, they were fiddling and testing random parts on it like the charging system.

ReggieCelsius posted:very much liking this video.. it's got balls for a 125! too bad about the ring. Normally it does have balls, but not during my last lap, just momentum. I edited out the part where after I pulled off the track and on the pavement, I tried to pop the clutch and do a wheelie, it wouldn't even lift the tire in first gear. It seemed to make a little power right up by the rev limiter, and even that wasn't much. Compression was so low it wouldn't even idle. The melted piston is why I kept coming up short on the tabletops.

Rev. Dr. Moses P. Lester posted:Yeah. BMW barn is back in Vermont though. I still honestly don't see the advantage of these pumps, I bleed my brakes with less than a dollars worth of tubing. Using the pump already fitted to the bike (you know, the one you use to pump the brakes to stop). I can't even see that it's a speed/convenience thing, as I assume you have to wash out the pump and maintain it, and it takes seconds to hook up a length of tubing and start pumping/cracking the bleed nut. Can anyone explain the appeal? Is it more difficult when you have twin rotors? I only have a single on the front of my bike.

He had a previous ride report which albiet was pretty awesome all around and a good write up, eh started taking paypal donations and whatnot then later on just flaked on the report completely. Personally if I were taking paypal donations I would keep a log of what I spent it on, not just kinda bail after awhile and then 2 months later go "Oh yeah I'm back in the states now dudes, had a rocking time! kinda forgot what all I did down there so prob not going to finish the reports. Good writing, good pictures. Dude goes from New York to way down Mexico way and back up to California. It's got bikes, it's got broads, it's got adventure. Really it's an amazing read all around probably the first huge ride report that really reeled me in and I read it all the way through. I didn't read the previous report but a couple people mentioned a "fiasco" with it. This one is pretty much up to date as of yesterday(typing it up as they're going along) and looks like they're funding everything themselves - Maybe Fishfund guy learned his lesson who knows. And i've read the Angola report. The update when they are riding on the beach with high tide coming in and the bikes breaking down was pretty intense, was definitely on the edge of my keyboard

Yeah, it was a good report for awhile, just flaked at the end. Also Luke reminds me of Tsaven Nava a lot so that's probably another reason I don't care for him. Decent report thus far and I don't wish him any ill will at all and hope he has a great time. I just don't care for him that much. Angola: FUUUCCCKKKK yeah you and me both. Since we don't see many ride reports on here wonder if we should crank up an ADV ride report link thread where if you find a good one post it and give a synopsis about what's in it or something. Could make for some interesting reading on some slow days. Content: Podium at the 2010 Laguna Seca round. Advanced brake check technique instruction by Josh Herrin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nvZ_uFCY7M Article Article summary: "The incident that spurred the suspension was some on-track contact between Herrin and M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby right before the finish line; close examination of the race footage showed Herrin’s elbow touching Westby’s front brake lever, causing Westby to go into a massive tankslapper that resulted in him being rammed from behind by Vesrah Suzuki’s Taylor Knapp, with Westby and Knapp going down in a horrific-looking crash at high speed. Luckily both riders suffered no major injuries." You know you're a badass when you can brake check someone by hitting another person's front brake at 180mph.
