Just won an auction on shopgoodwill for 10 lbs. of assorted pieces. Here's hoping we get some cool stuff. In the end it worked out to $6/lb.

So I started getting back into Lego this past summer with my girlfriend. I just counted my minifig collection and the total is 171, 96 of which are series 1-6(all completed). Considering in August I had no minifigures to speak of I think that's pretty ridiculous. I don't have a problem do I? Do I?

Wal-Mart near me looks like they're really scaling back their LEGO shelf space. The garden center is currently a dedicated clearance section, and I found about a dozen cases of S5 minifigures marked down. I probably looked like an obsessive compulsive weirdo to all parents/grandparents discount toy shopping, but I found all the figures I wanted from that series. Also, the "feel the bag for a familiar part" method worked surprisingly well. Even managed to find a lumberjack with his axe.

I went to my local Lego Store today and they had a huge box of S6. I wanted a Minotaur but the second I started feeling up a package the two employees (the only other people in the store) looked at me and I felt like a creeper. So I grabbed the one I was holding and just got that one. It was a Gray Alien.

I had the same thing happen with the Emerald Night - a whole bunch of parts missing, worked out on the phone with them that there was a bag missing - and they sent me a whole new bag. Didn't even have to send back the double-packed one, so now I've got a swack of green bits lying around somewhere. I'm not super happy about their final QC, but their customer service is top notch.

I just won an auction for this bad boy, with everything still sealed in the original bags. Now the dilemma: build this set that I've been lusting after for over 20 years, or flip it because it's still in the bags and pick up a used version off bricklink? I don't know if I have the self control.

Got a question for the fine people that work in the lego stores. The little displays that are behind the plastic at kid eye level, do you make them yourself or do you get parts and plans for them?

flip it. You can get a decent used version for about 80 quid. The cheapest new in box on bricklink is nearly three times that. Sell the sealed one, buy a used one to build and spend the remaining money on a bunch more space stuff so the Blacktrons have someone to fight.

Haha! Finished the mech I was building. I might make an alternate set of legs/arms or two, since I'm not entirely satisfied with them. Still, it's probably my favorite thing I've built so far.

Captain Invictus posted:Yeah, those are super grody. I would go with what was suggested, but in a bathtub if you have one. The water's gonna turn really, really loving gross, just fair warning. I remember washing a bunch of bricks I got at a yard sale in the sink once, with just hot soapy water and my hands to stir them up, and the water turned a mixture of brown and grey. Also, lots of floating dead bugs that had been inside a bunch of bricks. Really nasty. Stuff like this is why I actually went out of my way to buy a big 20lb or so tub of Bionicle when I was making my first mega-purchase. There's so much neat poo poo you can do with it, gently caress the haters. Plus, the stuff is cheap because of the haters.

The little displays that are behind the plastic at kid eye level, do you make them yourself or do you get parts and plans for them? I'm not a store employee, but when the Delaware Lego Store opened my club was given all of those miniland models to build, as well as the first round of display sets. I guess they didn't have all their employees ready to do it yet or something. Most stores have the same ones, though flagship locations like Manhattan have special ones. The only issue with them is that it seems they can only use parts currently in production. There were a ton of instances in all the instructions where there were parts substitutions because the set was designed years ago. For example, a 2x4 and a 2x6 brick instead of a 2x10 brick. The problem is you don't know what's being substituted for what until you run out of something.

Funkmaster General posted:I was at my local Kmart yesterday and swung by the Lego aisle. The shelves were stripped bare and the set I really wanted (Atlantis angler attack) was out of stock, but they had the Alien Conquest EDF HQ on clearance and I couldn't resist. This is the largest set I've ever owned, and unfortunately my first big disappointment. The set itself is awesome, way cooler than I actually thought it would be. But somewhere in the middle of the first book, I hit a snag - a missing brick. I was able to replace it with a similar brick from my collection, but then on the next step, whoops, another one. I stopped and sorted everything to make sure and, yep, turns out the set was missing an entire bag of parts. I had bags 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, and 7. No bag 3. Anyone ever have this happen before? Call the replacement parts number, it's 1 800 233 8756. Tell them the set and the bag you're missing, should get you set up with it! youareoffthehook fucked around with this message at 02:54 on Feb 1, 2012 |

I guess Lego Jesus really loves me today. My Craigslist has been dry for months thanks to the constant BUYING LEGO TOP DOLLAR jackasses, but I managed to score a fat pile this evening. $100, and it's got the Black Seas Barracuda, the Model Team tractor trailer, a huge amount of smaller castle and pirate sets, and a whole bunch of just random stuff. It's mostly in great shape too, the printed plastic pirate flags and torsos look almost new. My wife rolled her eyes when we dragged it home. I haven't told her about the Blacktron base yet

Only once did they mail me a return envelope because they wanted to examine the damaged part to try to figure out what went wrong. It's really pretty slick, not unexpectedly for a company that exclusively sells tiny bits of plastic. So I have a set of tan midget minifig legs I'd like to turn white. Is there a particularly consistent way to bleach the color out of a LEGO?
