I would only disagree with this to the extent that at the extremes of performance I could see some possible benefit to a modern fighter jet style intentional instability that actually requires computers to be usable, but by doing so allows for faster direction changes than an inherently stable design.

That said, for things like that we're only talking about top class racing and possibly some wild supercars. As a general rule you're right on the money, electronics should be used to make an already well-tuned system better rather than as a bandage to make up for a bad design.

But then we're venturing into the outright capability vs. handling discussion.

I maintain that stuff like grip and lateral Gs are completely separate from handling. Handling is not about grip levels, lap times or 0-60 times. It's about how the car makes you feel, how it communicates and how rewarding it is to drive hard. Anyone can design a monstrously fast car with tons of grip, but making that same car a joy to drive is something completely different.

Here's how not to do it:

Actually the most important part you left out - Handling is what happens when the grip runs out.

Actually, I would expand that and say that handling is what happens as you approach and exceed the limits of your vehicle. Handling happens at everyday speeds, too, which is why some cars are fun to go to the shops in, and some cars are absolutely dreary for the same task.

That little FWD hatch just seems to have so much grip.

So, what do you put up against a 370Z heavily modified for track use by Nissan, based on fan input?

Obviously, a total dreamboat of a 1970 240Z with an RB26DETT and loads of love and work put into it by its owner. Seriously, that guy absolutely built one of my all-time dream cars :swoon:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VRnBKfPOvw

Shame it's such a transparent piece of Nissan marketing, though.

It makes me incredibly happy to watch how slidey that 240Z is compared to the 370Z. The owner is a cool guy as well, seems very down to earth (and I'm sure the cheque Nissan cut him for use of his car didn't hurt).

Some-how I wound up finding this this video: This is a 1940's Doran Cunningham air horn. Usually found on WWII US Navy destroyer ships, and also found on some older ferries.

It's giant cast bronze(?) horn, and he has it set-up in the back of his Scion xB.
