The Others use that horn thing to demolish the wall and thanks to everyone and their petty squabbles the Others take over Westeros. Dany arrives just in time to go find what is left and goes insane like all of her predecessors and demolishes and melts what the Others have wrought, leaving everything underwater. Everyone's hopes and dreams go out the window. She and her dragons eventually tire, fall, and drown. Patchface was right the whole time. He is a prophet telling the what the past will be. And it is all underwater. And then poop happens. Edit: global warming. Cpt.Sean Luc Picard fucked around with this message at 06:29 on Nov 11, 2013 |

Even otherwise nearly flawless writers like Iain M. Banks stain their work with awkward/gross sex scenes. Just drop it altogether, genre writers. Ye sI too think sex is a gross thing and bodies are horrible lumps that are to be shamed and only ever in porno or in the Miracle of Life videos; furthermore, as an author, I can tell you that the challenges of successfully incorporating same whle only being elliptical or subtly nuanced and shyly referenced are,

I can understand the desire to communicate that two characters are close enough that they're starting to get physically intimate, but I really do not need someone to describe the act to me. Anyone reading these books ought to at least have a passing understanding of how sex works without having it shoved in their faces. If you absolutely have to indicate that two characters are boning, use some subtlety and have a little decency.

Writers also tend to go into great detail in describing anything (see "capons") so here we are with glistening shafts and Myrish swamps.

This is why Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is objectively the best programme of all time. quote:He whisked off her shoes and panties in one movement, wild like an enraged shark, his bulky totem beating a seductive rhythm. Mary's body felt like it was burning, even though the room was properly air-conditioned. They tried all the positions: on top, doggy, and normal. Exhausted, they collapsed on to the recently extended sofa bed. Then a hellbeast ate them.

fleshweasel posted:I don't think asoiaf would have blown up like it has if not for all the disgusting sex This is fairly true. You know how no one remembers being a toddler and your earliest memory is kind of like when you came online? That's how ASOIAF feels. I was just reading an average book and then BAM! dwarf prostitute sex. After that every sloppy, greasy, fisty detail registered. Sure, I forgot plots and stuff along the way. Can't remember why Cersei went to naked jail, or what Stannis did between the Blackwater and freezing somewhere with some banker. But I do remember that Jaime banged Cersei on their kid's coffin, and Dany got hosed so hard by Daario her clit got so engorged she thought she had a dick.

You're right, though, GRRM loves to shove things in peoples' faces.

Sticky princes is actually a bad example because that did provide actual character insight/background (no matter how hosed up). A better example is Sam's fat pink mast or Dany not knowing where the oval office ends and the cock begins.
