The Catcher in the Rye isn't a terrible book at all unless you think that the protagonist must be likeable for a book to be good. It captures pretty well how shitheaded teenagers are. That said, I'm aware most of the people who would get a tattoo based on it probably think Caulfield is some sort of idol figure.
