Sorry... I should have used the original title.

I'm still sort of in shock. I allowed myself to believe it was a good idea to store all of my bitcoin in mtgox, due to their One Time Password protection features.

Once I realized something was up, and realized that only small withdraws of <0.05 BTC were being processed, I spent the last 24 hours salvaging as much as I could. I was able to withdraw 3.4 BTC of my 9.2 total. There are still 0.65 in my MtGox account. The remaining 5.15 are stuck in "withdraw limbo" due to the technical problems. MtGox has set up a system to automatically refund all stuck withdraws exactly 7 days after they get stuck. So, hopefully 7 days from now I'll be able to withdraw the rest, if MtGox allows it.

I hope their Monday update will bring good news...

Once again, sorry about the original title.

they have "technical problems" that allow them to process 0.05 or less transactions but larger things fail because they draw on empty wallets

i asked @aantonop if he thought that https prevents identity theft and he went "strawman argument" and is trying to flee the discussion, which suggests that he is not smart enough to understand why this is a relevant question

Millennius suspends iPhone sales in protest of Apple's removal of the last Bitcoin wallet App

MELBOURNE: FRIDAY, February 7, 2014 – Leading Australian online consumer electronics retailer Millennius says it will suspend selling all iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5c and 5s, effective immediately to protest against Apple removing the blockchain.info app (the only remaining bitcoin wallet app) from its App store.

The app removal is seen by many as an anti-competitive move by Apple, and continues to alienate its core users who once saw Apple as a visionary company that promotes futurism. More than 120,000 iPhone users are affected by the Blockchain blacklisting.

“Apple seems to have betrayed its own ideals, and those who believed in the brand,” said Millennius founder Pierre Boutros.

“Millennius has decided to suspend sales of the current versions of the iPhone until Bitcoin wallets allowed are back on the Apple app store,” Mr Boutros said.

Millennius’ existing iPhone stock will be kept to continue servicing warrantees and replacements for past purchases.

“We hope that other iPhone retailers who accept Bitcoins such as Overstock can also apply the necessary pressure to Apple in reversing their decision.” Mr Boutros said.

“Although this will most likely impact our bottom line, we want to do our bit to help amplify the disappointment expressed by the cryptocurrency community.”

This has not come lightly as Millennius Bitcoin sales data (http://www.millennius.com/M.pdf) released earlier in the week shows phones are the highest selling category, with phones being over 53% of products sold for customers paying via Bitcoins.

“This has only been done in response to Apple as it has so poorly communicated its reasons for such a decision,” Boutros said.

“We can only see the decision as hostile towards the Bitcoin ecosystem, and therefore need to take action just like those in the community who have made their switch away from iPhones.”

somebody in the hn thread was asking about what "dogdickcoffeetable" meant and while trying to google the image i found this

Furry fandom can benefit from adopting Bitcoin more than any other community! (self.furry)

submitted 8 days ago by Rassah

There is apparently a crap-ton of misunderstanding and misconception (along with general idiocy) with regards to bitcoin among the furry community. Which is really f'in sad, considering just how much this currency can help the fandom. Specifically:

No restrictions on payments (pay for any kind of porn to anyone in the world)
Extremely low fees (0 to 10 cents per transaction regardless of how much you send)
Can send microtransactions, such as just a few pennies per payment.
No need to set up any bank accounts or create button links like you do with PayPal. Just install an app, or sign up on blockchain.info or Coinbase.com to get a bitcoin address (a string of text) and you're done.
Can be used internationally, especially for furs that travel to foreign conventions.

To receive a bitcoin payment, all you have to do is copy/paste text, such as 1Rassahgt3XSxKVJ62oSrQJxtH3wk4MKX. That's it. What I think would be really awesome (or at least useful) is to include this bitcoin address text in the description field under every picture artists submit. If people like the art, they can send a few cents as a donation or a thanks. Even better, you can create different bitcoin addresses for every pic you post, and see which ones are liked most just based on the amount of donations it gets.

As for usability, you can easily convert bitcoins to dollars trough Coinbase (in US) or many other exchanges, for at most a 1% fee, or use bitcoin to pay for things directly through a ton of available services, which let you shop on Amazon (with 6% discount for using bitcoin), Target (3% discount), or a ton of other places.

I want 2014 to be the year the furry community finally adopts Bitcoin, and would appreciate any help with achieving that goal, and I will personally volunteer my time to help anyone with getting set up, as well as be happy to answer any questions about it. I am even considering renting advertising space on furaffinity, and maybe running an information table at conventions. I also want to finally dispel all the rumors, misconceptions, and stupid claims about it that seem to persist despite tons of evidence contradicting them.

P.S. Regarding myself, I have a background in IT and have a Master's in international finance and economics (from Robert H. Smith School of Business, which uses Harvard University curriculum/materials). I currently work as a Senior Financial analyst for the State of MD, as well as a director of a bitcoin-based charity, through which I have personally already sent out thousands of dollars (over $40k in the last 2 months), including to animal rescue type charities. I will also be sending out a $1,000 donation to Toonseum.org in Pittsburgh within a week. I am also a bitcoin early adopter, know everything there is to know about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies (which I learned about wile being a SecondLife early adopter back in 2003), and live entirely off bitcoin, so if I can do it, there is definitely something bitcoin can be used for.

the app they gave the reviewers only let you view the blockchain

the app that shipped changed the destination server and opened up actually being able to send and receive funds which was against apples TOC i believe

this angered apple and now bitcoiners are mad that they couldnt be so deceptive and stupid

you see how that dogecoin page says "MYĐOGE is read-only. It can be used to monitor your Dogecoin at a glance, watch the markets or read about Dogecoin."

that's what the blockchain app was supposed to be, read-only. it passed apple's review process that way

then they added the ability to make payments and didn't tell apple
