Yeah, this. There was a pretty welcome dynamic between the two when she was a kid. She might've felt attracted to him, but he clearly and outspokenly saw her as a child and nothing more.

Then she sprouted breasts, grew three feet, and turned into an animal-eared hottie in the span of a few days? Weeks? It's awkward no matter how you look at it now. If they never approached it again it could be fine but frankly, I find that to be impossible at this point. And literally saying "adult body with the mind of a child" is just asking for the series to be poo poo allllll over.

Hakairo Drops

A sheltered homeschooled girl moves next door to a guy with mean eyes. Also they're in the same class in high school.

Gan-Kon

Boy meets God, wishes for a bride, God misunderstands wish and becomes the boy's bride. Also the god looks like this. It starts out sorta shounen-y with weekly battles, but the battles are less about fighting and more about the humor and ~willpower~. Then the tournament takes a hilarious shift. It's rarely serious and despite the premise has far less fanservice than your average shounen.

Horimiya

I realize I've posted it before once but Horimya is seriously great.

Like I said, if it doesn't go farther than this, it'll probably be fine. But it won't because anime.

She's still a ten-year-old but in an adult body. If you don't see why that's kinda hosed up if they're aiming for a romance angle between the two, I don't know what to tell you.

On the bright side at least he still treats her as a kid. I mean, he's a shut in nerd and he kissed her on the cheek as a means of thanks and didn't even blush about it, while she did. That clearly means that he thinks she's a kid and going to keep treating her like one right?

Right guys? Guys? :smith:

I hope so but I wouldn't count on it. This's the last I'll say about it though, that it's super creepy wish fulfillment to have a sexy adult with the mind of a child and I would hope that it was editor meddling and nothing more, but unfortunately anime has a pretty stereotypical precedent for poo poo like this. The reverse is the usual "3000 year old demon in the body of an 8-year-old"

Yeah, this series was never particularly good at feminism. (Also count how many women there are that aren't acting as accessories to men. I don't remember any.)

I'm mostly caught up on the translated novels and if the manga follows the novels there shouldn't be much fanservice. It wouldn't be surprising if the manga added a lot, but in the novels there's not much at all. Her sudden growth is treated as a good thing because it makes her more capable as a fighter and not really dwelled on; the fact that she's still an enslaved child soldier is glossed over.

I'd actually give the novels a recommendation, at least if you liked it before that point - you should still like it after.

Yeah I'm in the thick of web novel stuff and there aren't any. Unless you count crazy healthy grandma who kicks a lot of demon rear end after being healed by the main character a little too well. It's not blatantly offensive so I guess that kind of makes it better than a lot of LN stuff though!

Folks, image please.

This, right here, is the reason why I'm going to give "Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari" a lot of leeway. Yes, that's the main character.

I'm willing to hope that the author just is going to forget about his partner having been a "kid" and proceed onward with the story. Author's discover that they can't deal with a character as written all the time and just retcon the problem.

Yes, I'm setting myself up to get burned in *exactly* the same way that Zero no Tsukaima burned me (a main character with some balls, from another world with a mysterious hero power, hero of the commoners, bane of the aristocracy), but I'm going to hope until it actually goes off the rails.

Hogwash. The story could have been romance. It could have been battle. It could have been comedy. It could have been adventure. It could have been coming of age. It could have been discovery and wonder. It could have been intrigue. It was a beautifully open world given the premise.

The problem was that the source material was garbage. The author created a whole bunch of good plot threads and then just let them hang in preference to really base, poorly executed pandering which the anime then proceeded to exaggerate because "Rie Kugimiya voicing an abusive character" is a thing.

The fact that ZnT got *4* effing seasons captures what is wrong with anime in a nutshell.

I'm going to pray that "Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari" has an author with far more talent and taste. Sadly, if he is, he probably won't get 4 seasons of anime.

As much as I like Aiki, you *really* need to warn people that the author tends to draw things very pornographically.

Aiki-S seems to have toned it down from Aiki, thankfully, but it's not exactly wholesome fare.
