If we can ignore the fact that the urine-beer (and entire car due to quantity) would have stunk like piss and there's no way you could get a bottle that close to your nose without noticing something was up, then we can maybe assume the dust was talcum powder applied due to bedsores or diaper rash or something similarly plausible. I remain cautiously optimistic, I don't think Jim Carrey has been in anything objectively terrible (don't say cable guy) so at the worst it will be a watch once and laugh at the stupid jokes kind of deal. If I had seen the first one at 30 instead of 13 it's unlikely I would have watched it as many times as I did.

I love the people talking about the original as if it were some high-water mark for subtle and understated humor and wit. Do you guys actually remember the first one?

There's smart comedy about dumb characters, and then there's dumb comedy. The first was the former. This looks like the latter. We're not sure it will be, but the trailer looks like a very different kind of comedy than the original.

This reminded me a lot of the first one. Now, granted, the first one was never one of my favorite films like some people here, I enjoyed it but have only seen it a couple times over the years. Maybe having a deeper connection with the original is what is giving people a bad feeling about the sequel. But from my perspective this seems a lot like the original, except everyone is older.

The bit in the first one that slays me was a simple bit where Carrey turns around and just points. But it's the WAY he kinda stomps himself around and the "HEY!" Sure he hasn't lost that magic touch.

The Ferrely brothers were heavily reigned in by the studio, and the film was better for it. They've had far more creative freedom since, and have frequently gone too far into a direction that doesn't appeal to me. The uncut Dumb and Dumber is actually a worse movie, in my opinion, and this looks no better. Again, I hope to be wrong. A laugh is a laugh.

If we're strictly talking about dumb comedies though, Cable Guy is near the top of the "Jim Carrey Dumb Comedy List". The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine are great movies with solid performances by Jim Carrey, but they're not really "comedies" in the traditional sense. I wouldn't even try to compare them to The Cable Guy.

The Cable Guy required a little bit of malice and awkward insanity from Jim Carrey which he balanced well. Plus, it had the wonder of stealth-releasing as another wacky Jim Carrey comedy in 1996 (seriously, this is why people don't like it) so it really threw people off who only thought Carrey was good at butt-talking. Those two films you mentioned are great (no idea on the other 8) but god drat did The Cable Guy happen at just the right time in Carrey's career so he could branch off.

I saw this movie tonight at an advanced screening here in Las Vegas and I don't really know how I feel about it. It was a dumb and dumber movie but a lot of the jokes felt forced and there was a lot of duds. It wasn't anywhere near as good as the first movie and almost seems like they waited way to long to do it again. Both the characters seemed like the original Lloyd and Harry and they had pretty good chemistry but a majority of the movie fell flat. I don't really know if I can recommend this movie to people. A lot of the audience was laughing at the beginning but as the movie wore on there was a lot less laughs. Definitely some pretty good moments, but nothing really quotable or that I remember.

I might be remembering wrong, but I remember in early trailers they had Jim Carey in a Superman costume, and in the newer ads, it appears they CGI'd it into a generic superhero costume.

The previews have been reminding me of Dumberer a lot actually, but I remain stupidly hopeful. I wasn't a huge fan of Anchorman 2 because of how self aware it was and it looks like this one is falling into the same trap. At least Dumberer had Bob Saget screaming about poo poo on his walls which still gets a good laugh from me anytime I see the awful movie on TV.

I saw this a few weeks ago and it's not bad, doesn't hold a candle to the first one but it's a masterpiece compared to Dumberer

See, this? This is the kind of stupid poo poo from the first film that I still laugh about and quote to this day. The first film is full of weird little moments that really make it pop. I'm not too convinced that the sequel will have the same kind of small jokes by the trailers we've seen, but I'm willing to hold out hope.

I'm seeing this for nostalgia anyway. I don't really care if it's as funny as some of the good Apattow movies, as long as it's remotely as funny as the first one and not a total piece of poo poo like Dumb and Dumberer

Reading the reviews I kinda want to rewatch Dumb and Dumberer. It seems this is a beat for beat lazy remake like Hangover 2. With literal "copied" jokes and premises. For all it's faults, Dumb and Dumberer never tried to repeat jokes from Dumb and Dumber.

Pretty much that. Beat for beat remake of the first. Repeated jokes. Beyond ugly visuals. It felt cheap, soulless, and horribly sad.
