I decided I needed to see this immediately, and thankfully it's on Amazon Prime right now. A shame the poster doesn't use the trailer's tagline: "Jack Deth is back, and he's never even been here before."

I hated this movie and am perplexed that it was created by the same person as Persepolis/Chicken With Plums. The poster does capture the wide-eyed autistic look that Reynolds has throughout though. I don't mean that in the pejorative, he plays an actual autistic.

It seems like an interesting concept, filming a movie over a period of time to watch the characters grow, but isn't the same thing like Harry Potter, where we watched the same kids grow up over a decade? Or any long running tv series?

How many of those do you get under three hours, though, and actually come out without the "chosen one" narrative (Potter) or an increasingly ridiculous series of "very special" events as they stretch vainly to maintain some sort of ratings buoyancy as the zeitgeist passes them. Boyhood's more like taking the Antoine Doinel movies and digging through everything that happens to him between 400 Blows and Stolen Kisses and making a movie out of bits and pieces of that.
