I thought it was a perfect response from Drake though. Straight from the school of Hov. Also Nicki isn't letting Meek respond so give up any hope for a continuation of this.

Those who refuse study Beanie are doomed to repeat it.

What's really embarrassing is being in your feelings on Twitter because one of the few dudes who was saying Free Meek Mill when you were locked up didn't tweet your album. Then apologizing for it the next night at his concert. And then when he responds on a song you go back to Twitter and schedule your diss song response like you work a 9-5 and can't rap on the weekends. But yeah Drake's embarrassing even though he's the only rapper rapping in this whole thing

I mostly never said that because it's an understood fact but I still didn't say it.

MMG has had such a weird transformation since it started

Rick Ross: commercially massive rapper who shows up on every song -> fat guy that hipsters like but who struggles with charts
Meek Mill: relegated to mixtapes but he fucks with the streets -> commercial crossover guy who fucks with nicki minaj
Wale: mixtape alt-rapper with tons of promise -> the guy who makes albums that make drake look hard
Stalley: unique midwestern rapper about to break into hipster fame -> the guy in the background of other mmg stuff
Gunplay: dedicated weed carrier -> oddball cokehead that kills stuff more often than the rest of the label
Omarion: who cares -> who cares

vanbags
Dec 6, 2003

An ape.
It doesn't really matter how embarrassing or awkward Drake is. The fact is he has major influence and weight in not only rap culture, but the industry. He's received countless co-signs from the established rappers/"legends" that matter and he's the go to guy for a feature if you want to advance your career.

By pointing all of that out in the track, Meek's inevitable outcome is a loss. He didn't spaz out with bars, but he doesn't have to. Drake will be Drake and Meek should honestly reconsider his ploy for stardom.

I mean this is the guy who was slapped in the face by Diddy and shortly after released the highest selling digital album of the year in the form of a mixtape that sounded like throwaways left on the studio floor. His image is incapable of being damaged.

Notice how someone like Meek is the only one he'll respond to. Anyone who could actually wash him gets nothing silence, or maybe one small subliminal at most

Mastermind was one of my favorite albums last year. Still gets play from me. Actually my favorite Ross project. And I don't get this whole hipster thing with Ross? Is that true?

Meek Mills album is pretty decent but other than Lord Knows (which is loving awesome) Drake Quentin Miller had by far the best verse on the album. Sold really well too which is cool.

Anyway everybody listen to this and crack a Sunday night brew

Damage is done. Drake has writers that pen entire verses for his hit songs. That may not matter to you but it does to many.

In the scheme of things this won't matter in the least. Drake makes good music and trying to throw shade at him because he is effeminate and soft isn't new and doesn't seem to slow down or stop his popularity at all. It's not like Meek is 50 and Drake is Benzino or Game or some other semi fringe artist.

Meek made a bad look by dissing someone who just appeared on his album, and by that aspect alone made the project more popular and helped in sales. Meek is a very replaceable artist, but Drake is pretty unique and one of the hottest artists around.

Basically Meek dun goofed, even considering Drake put out that wack rear end diss track in response. (Seriously did he call that track Charged Up??? It couldn't have a slower and boring beat going with it....)

But it's a pretty good way to get someone to spend money on buying you an av and sig. Maybe I should be really obnoxious and get an upgrade myself

Moral of the story: be careful what you wish for.

You are welcome.
Gonna annoy you with a bit more British rap. Some of it is better than others- Pretty much the only exciting part of it is in the Grime scene but as you've noticed it is super hit and miss. Every city and region has its own (embarassing) rap scene and now thanks to youtube you have a lot more ability for local rappers to spit freestyles into their mates camera and put it on youtube.

A good example of early "successful" commercial british rap was Goldie Lookin' Chain- a ridiculous welsh band who rose to fame for having dumb songs and music videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dx8CZyFM4b4
As you can see- this kind of rap is pretty much scared to take itself seriously but these guys paved the way for the next wave in popular homegrown rap.

The Streets: Bit more serious- more spoken word style. Some silly songs but a focus on depressing working class shite mostly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7MCbis75wk

Scroobius pip: This guy is more interesting to me- he has an extremely dumb name and is from Essex but he makes some fairly unique music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Gh8TWpQE8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4ZuaVxBog8

Mouse outfit: Manchester stoner rap mostly. Laid back, pretty good.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXLPWi1B5DI

Klashnekoff: defunct now, as are many of his contemporaries. Quite political and issues based with a street sound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-RykYU3jEA

I'm not massively knowledgeable about grime, some of my friends are super in to it and I'll have to get some recommendations for a grime effortpost from them.
Here's some good Skepta songs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czLQoG01PFs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dsjqsz4MR4

I appreciate that some of this may not be to the thread's taste but there may be something new there that you appreciate. The UK isn't the wasteland it appears to be but due to the lack of popularity and money involved there's kind of a ceiling to the quality of a lot of the stuff.
There's also the obvious problem of white dudes gaining prominence over black dudes which is being happily reversed in recent years with the rise of grime.
Edit: I forgot about Akala. He is excellent. Great flow and lyrics.
