I made a deposit to Bitfinex 13 hours ago and the funds are still not available. (self.Bitcoin)
submitted 2 hours ago * by phedreshahrizai

Thankfully the deposit is rather small (just under .05 BTC), I noticed the deposit never posted after 3-4 confirmations like usual. So, I contacted support and their response was this:
"The BTC will be credited as soon as possible.
Kind regards,
Bjorn Bitfinex Suppport Team support@bitfinex.com "

Now, fast-forward 5 going on 6 hours later and my deposit is still not available, and I've also seen the coins move to another wallet on the Blockchain. What is going on!? Hardly acceptable, is there anyone else out there having the same problem?

EDIT: 2 Hours after this post I have still not seen my funds post to my Bitfinex account, nor have they responded to further inquiries via support. I hadn't used my Bitfinex account in a while, and I guess this reminds me of why.

The largest dark net market, Agora, is shutting down.

quote:

Recently research had come that shed some light on vulnerabilities in Tor Hidden Services protocol which could help to deanonymize server locations. Most of the new and previously known methods do require substantial resources to be executed, but the new research shows that the amount of resources could be much lower than expected, and in our case we do believe we have interested parties who possess such resources.

We have a solution in the works which will require big changes into our software stack which we believe will mitigate such problems, but unfortunately it will take time to implement. Additionally, we have recently been discovering suspicious activity around our servers which led us to believe that some of the attacks described in the research could be going on and we decided to move servers once again, however this is only a temporary solution.

At this point, while we don't have a solution ready it would be unsafe to keep our users using the service, since they would be in jeopardy. Thus, and to our great sadness we have to take the market offline for a while, until we can develop a better solution. This is the best course of action for everyone involved.

In the mean time we shall do our best to clear all outstanding orders and we ask all of you users who have money on their accounts, withdraw them as soon as possible, because we don't want to be responsible for it during the time when the market will be offline.

During this time, there might be some delays in payouts, since many people are expected to withdraw money at the same time, but we intend to resolve any such issues in the end. But we advice you to use only destination bitcoin addresses that do not expire when you send money out from Agora, as the payments to them might get delayed.

While the market is offline, do not send any bitcoin to any of your deposit addresses on Agora. We do not gurantee the safety of any funds sent there.

Vendors, we strongly advice you to abort any orders that haven't been sent out or processed yet, as we cannot gurantee what will happen with the orders in resolution. We shall try to resolve it on a case-by-case basis, but there might not be time to wait for orders that require long shipping times.

We are going to handle the situation with the vendor bonds soon, we need some time to make sure that noone uses this as an opportunity to start scamming wildly.

All of the market data will be kept intact and be available upon return, including all of the user history and profile data.

Since our PGP key is nearing expiration date, here is a new PGP key which could be used to check authenticity of our messages in the future.

I've been robbed at gunpoint before and I must say I wasn't half as scared then as I am now. This guy clearly knew what he was doing. I can recover from this monetarily but I really see no other option than to move out, which is a pity because I just recently moved in and the apartment is actually fairly nice... unless one of you has a million dollar idea? This probably would have been better for moronic mondays but I noticed on coinbase they have a a credit card option for instant bitcoin purchases. I would assume using a credit card in any fashion, as long as you pay it off on time, would help build your credit. Yes there's a small fee for using the credit card but If you have not so good credit, that could be a good way help boost it a bit? I figure it couldn't hurt because if anything, a credit company would care less than a bank where that money was going, which either way, wouldn't matter all that much as it's just going for bit coins which by itself doesn't mean anything. I'll still have my bank linked to my coin base account but I just don't see realistically how this could be any worse than just buying coins normally.

you'd think so but this happens every time there's a crash, exchanges suddenly started having "technical problems"

i think it's either an ideological choice because they can't stand to see the price crater even if it would make them more money in the process, or they're concerned that if the exchange rate is too low that they won't be able to pay the expenses they have to use real money to cover or make enough money to make their vcs happy

If you're a true believer then the high price might be more important to your beliefs (notacult)

Also if you've gambled away most of your exchange's bitcoin holdings on satoshidice then you might stop trading in order to prevent a run

in the case of the m:tgox they probably needed more money coming in than being withdrawn to cover their missing funds

or it could be true believers giving the invisible hand a little help to get the price to where the free market would have wanted it if it weren't for all these loving sellers man
