The biggest difference imo between Hunter x Hunter and something like Madoka is the music and how flippant it is about people dying. Hisoka ices like 30 dudes in the hunter exam and nobody gives a poo poo, least of all the swelling happy go lucky adventure music that plays 5 minutes afterward. Compared to more obviously darker shows where people dying is usually given some time to sink in it can be be a bit disconcerting. More on topic My Hero Academia and JoJo are going to be cool and nobody can tell me otherwise

Bakuon! is an elaborate commercial for Japanese motorcycle brands that features cute girls discovering the joy of riding fast on the open road. It also rags on expensive Italian bikes for being unreliable and high maintenance. It's gonna be good. Edit - No, the girls do not transform into bikes, they ride them.

the protagonists of HxH are pretty amoral so knowing the villains only get worse from there definitely sets the tone of things that go down in the series. it takes a little while to establish that stuff though, so it seems to always surprise people.

Even later on, in one episode someones head will literally get bitten off and then two episodes later we're watching wacky money making adventures. In the chimera ant arc poo poo doubles down hard but it can be a bit on/off through the first half or so.

Where is Concrete Revolutio I wonder? The op has the third listed, but it's not on either Funi or Daisuki. I'm really looking forward to it, whenever the heck it shows up.

Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu has potential, despite the horrible anime madlib synopsis in the OP. First episode is double length, with the first half happy-go-lucky transported to a fantasy world shenanigans like KonoSuba then in the second half poo poo gets real like Erased. I'm on board for a few more episodes to see if they settle on a tone and what happens next.a kitten posted:Where is Concrete Revolutio I wonder? The thing that turned me off to HxH was all the casual, nonchalant death everywhere. It's one of the few shows that actually bothered me, which is a fairly difficult feat. And I only watched the anime up to episode 10.

Only way Re:Zero works out is if every week gets an hour long episode. I know nothing of the source but it's so obviously the type of thing that usually gets butchered being stuffed into a one cour and done show.

It's pretty good from what I remember. I think the only annoying part is the genre savvy protag not recognizing what his special power was

pan de peace: its a short, its about bread, it has yuri. its boring kuma miko: i loved it. knew nothing about it, but did not expect it to be a dad anime (bear = dad). really scratches that barakamon, non non biyori itch, though perhaps in reverse since i think the mc will be a hick going to the city. quite a bit ranchier than expected, but funny! re: zero: starts out as konosuba (main girl has megumins va, main guy wears a tracksuit even), guy gets sucked into another world. terrible comedic timing, terrible genre-aware mc, also furries and lizard people. it was a 2 parter however and the cast get gruesomely murdered right at the beginning of part 2. does the whole time travel thing, well you know how this goes. i still didn't think it was great but i was wrong about konosuba too so im going to give it a chance. its 2 cours btw

Purportedly, that's about as lewd as it gets and never gets that lewd again. Also, I disliked TWCFM, insofar as it tried to tell a story using preexisting characters and modified them to work, rather than the other way around.

It's one of the few shows that actually bothered me, which is a fairly difficult feat. And I only watched the anime up to episode 10. See, it's actually the opposite for me; the nonchalance and suddenness of death is a result of taking the typical shounen ideal of "a world of wonder and superpowers" to its logical real-world conclusion, and while it isn't nice, it is terribly fascinating to me. It's a very Hobbes setting as opposed to the normal Locke setting you find in that genre (if you can forgive the incredibly nerdy analogy). What I mean by that is, when you consider Naruto or DBZ or what have you, the setting that they're in seems to be based upon a conventional morality that most of the characters seem to have; sure, there are bad guys and villains to fight, but these are generally seen as outliers to the moral fabric of that universe because there are enough "good" people among the powerful, or at least non-assholes, that some semblance of normalcy prevails. It may not be our exact normalcy, but it does actually give the impression of a legitimate society run by well meaning individuals who want what's best, even if some folks slip through the cracks. But the world of Hunter X Hunter is much different. In that world, there is no prevailing morality among those with power; the Hunters and their opponents aren't any kind of society with a purpose, they all pretty much just do their own thing for their own reasons. So if a superpowered individual wanted to steal something or kill someone or take over a town, there is no force that would stop them except another superpowered individual. Ethics are more or less personal as opposed to being treated as a universal truth, and that means the world is truly dangerous and terrible for those with no power- or, as in the case of that poor woman, those who don't understand the rules of power (which is pretty much all based on contract and price). So yeah, it becomes deliciously dark at times, and I love it. e: OK, OK, so this isn't entirely off topic: My Hero Academia looks good and will probably rule, but I do question the decision to split up the opening chapter.

Uhoh. The internet seas are pretty stormy over in Japan right now, after someone noticed that Love Live voice actress Nitta Emi (Honoka) probably starred in a porn video. Wonder how NHK feels about putting µ's on their prestigious New Year's Eve spectacle Kouhaku Uta Gassen last year.
