They're the remnants of the big baby boomer era where the quality of life was way above the previous generation and they had a lot handed to them through prosperity. Now they're getting mean and bitter because the world is giving the next generation things and leaving them in the dust Hell, they're kinda pitted in the middle where the younger generations are out making names for themselves through the technology that's available, while the generation prior to them is known as the greatest generation for dealing with WWII.
