Soo I've rewatched Tri's OVAs again, and the trinary code is present in all digivoloutions since the very beginning.

So, it was not Patamon's fault that it spread to the others :colbert: (and possibly not Meicoomon's fault since during the Kuwagamon fight they hadn't met Meicoomon yet)

The dub (didn't have to cancel my movie trip after all!) at least implies that passing through the distortions into the real world at all puts things at risk of being infected. So maybe the infection is latent in any Digimon who has passed into the real world at all, and contact with someone actively infected triggers the madness and whatnot?

The new theme song is atrocious and just doesn't fit the tone of Tri at all. The dub itself is really well done. 99% faithful to the Japanese script with just a slight dash of some old dub-isms. New Joe voice is really different than the old one, but I think they're trying to move away from Dub-Joe being absurdly neurotic and make him a bit more like the Japanese characterization. All the Digimon sounded perfect.

Is Agumon closer to his (new) Japanese version, or the dub version where he was more obviously down to earth

He seemed much like my memories of the dub. Chill, down to earth, loves a good snack but doesn't whine about wanting to eat constantly.

It seems half-assed especially since they left the insert and ending songs as-is.

I've even seen claims that its supposed to be a remix of the original Digimon dub theme...but if it is, I'm just not hearing it.

Movie 3 was depressing as gently caress... loved it though.

Burkion posted:

Full disclosure my attempt to get into the Digimon fandom back in the early days of the internet quickly crashed and burned because one of the first, and easiest, sites I found was some anime porn group that I noped right the gently caress out of. But it was one that had a really innocous name, like...Digi Artists? Something like that. So I mostly talked about Digimon at the time with friends, and when the show was off the air that's the last I thought about it for years and years until I was able to rewatch it.

Are you talking about DigiArtistsDomain? Fuuuuck that takes me back.

I ran into that site too, it was weird, had bad code, and (apparently, because curiosity is a horrible beast...) is still around?

I stuck around on the forums there lurking just to find people to talk to about the anime. The porn was easy to ignore there and it was all I had as everyone else physically around me (friends included) all were into DBZ and Pokemon. They're all STILL into DBZ. It's really weird.

Anyway, that's my story on that site.

Digimon World in general had a lot of weird stuff and flaws, but holy poo poo, whoever thought Greymon randomly attacking you when you leave Jijimon's house was a good idea needs to get shot for every poor Digimon that died to their idea.

Am I missing something? Why is Next World considered a terrible game? Is it just a redo of an existing Digimon game?

The guy was part of an LP of its predecessor, and vehemently hates its style. It's going to be basically a severely updated Digimon World, with a ton of drawbacks due to that style. It's a monster raising game with obtuse requirements, not a standard RPG like Cyber Sleuth.

Basically, it's pretty loving niche.

Until Cyber Sleuth, the original Digimon World was regarded as one of the best Digimon games ever made. Re: Digitize was creatively lauded as well, sold fantastically, and earned itself a 3DS port. Its success led to Cyber Sleuth, which was itself a revival of another sub-series.

Digimon World 2, 3, and 4 all play completely differently from the first and are not well regarded.

Next Order didn't sell very well past its first week, but it's generally considered that this isn't due to it being a World style game, but because they half assed it, with minimal missions, casualization of the series' defining elements, and minimal content. The international release seems set to correct those complaints.

Honestly as much as I wanted to like Cyber Sleuth, I just couldn't get into it, combat felt dull both from a mechanics viewpoint and a visual one(this in particular has always been a huge problem with not just Digimon games, but almost all Mon games that have ever existed), and the monster raising parts are just way too grind heavy for me to tolerate as I have a ridiculously low tolerance for that aspect of RPG's these days(even stuff as simple in that area like Fallout or Skyrim is too much for me to deal with), but I'll admit I didn't get all that far in the game before I lost interest(like just after the part where the main character turned into a pile of scrambled data, and got dumped back into the real world), so maybe I missed a turning point

I'd love the World games if you didn't have to grind so much. The original virtual pets are what got me into Digimon.

Though after Cyber Sleuth I'd prefer another one of those (at least if Media Vision is working on it again)

Nah. While DW is by no means perfect it still remains a pretty enjoyable experience today and is one of the few game I go back to play every now and then just for the sheer delight of raising my own and unique Digimon.

Cyber Sleuth is ultimately a pretty generic RPG with a Digimon coat of paint and what it made it stood out to me was the story and the characters.

However, the best Digimon game for me is Digital Card Battle. Man that was such a great game.

That said, I'm really excited to play Next 0rder.
