CA explicitly turned it off at max friendship, yeah, but friendship pools are so deep on villagers that it would take like 3 years of ignoring someone completely for 10 hearts to go down to 3 i think it was

of course, the entire reason you do all that for villagers is to get their rewards and heart events, so at 10 you could have them go back down to 0 for all you care. animals on the other hand, you need them high so they still make big produce.

I think poking the animals is supposed to be a cute way of cleaning up their poo poo. It makes sense your animals would stop liking you if you left them to wallow in filth. Villagers are more capable of taking care of themselves.

a few days ago I mentioned problems with half my fruit trees not growing in the hardwood section of forest farm after chopping down the trunks every day, even though other people's were growing fine

maybe it's just my game f-ing up because I planted these 2 trees at the same time at the beginning of winter in a different part of the farm, and here they are on spring 1. the apricot tree with the "complaint" is the one I'm standing next to; the cherry one above it is maturing at the normal rate with no problems. there has never been an adjacent object next to it for like 2 squares in any direction. now I'm on spring 3 and the cherry tree is mature and the apricot message is "will mature on spring 9 (6 days)" it's apparently just broken :/

uh, I guess I'm not expecting any advice or anything, just generally complaining/wondering if there's anything I can do (probably not)

(mod to display this info is lookup anything)

checking out the pic of the day 1 forest farm map it looks like there used to be one of those non-respawning large logs there (area under the east entrance), but that shouldn't affect anything  that area had been 100% clear for ages; I used to have recycling machines or something there for awhile before I rearranged things

e: that's assuming the maps always start off with the same placement of logs & bushes; I can't remember. maybe I'll just have to chop it and have a sad lack of apricots until next year-- or just use the greenhouse

If it makes you feel any better, here's my farm:

Starting a tiny orchard to the south of my barn, and I've barely begun to clear out the forest to the west. I'm on spring of year two, though, and very satisfied with it as it's my first time through.

Every time I think of redoing my farm layout, I come up with reasons not to. I don't want to chop down the trees because they will make silver fruit any day now, I don't want to sell the cows and chickens because they are good for pepper poppers and omelettes, but I really need to get around to just totally rehauling my entire farm. I'm in Fall year 4 now, so maybe I'll spend the Winter doing that. Make my farm super efficient and pretty, because I have more money than I know what to do with, an infinite supply of stuff to turn into wine to age and make worth a billion dollars, and no goals left.

You have fences at least!

I'm plagued with this problem where I just can't get anything to grow near my barns so I gave up.

I think part of my problem right now is that I just dabble in way too many things - either I scale back the farm and focus on ranching or vice versa. I haven't even had time to leave my farm in weeks because just keeping up with it is all I have time for.

Oh man, look at those pretty paved paths. I don't think I'll ever get myself to lay those down as I like to let grass grow wild and free (so I can cut it for my silo!)

Also, re: your problem as I understand it there's not much profit in ranching? You have pet your animals daily or they stop making large milk/eggs, and that's fairly time consuming when you've already gotta water fifty thousand crops. I've been planning to stick to no more than one or two barns, and several coops as I adore, adore eggs. (and the quack sounds my ducks make when I pet 'em) So it might be better to stick to your fields, idk.

I mean, I spend roughly half of my days running around town talking to people and gifting them things, then I either fish in the evening or do the mines, so it's not like I'm very focused on things. Spread out, have fun, don't stress about a beautiful farm!

Oh, one more note: I don't let my cows/chickens out to feed very often because they just decimate the grass and I need to stop giving Pierre money for grass starter.

What on earth have you been doing?! How can you afford 7 Deluxe barns by end of fall year 2? What is in those barns?!

You must go mining for gems and gold every night until you collapse or something. I am at the beginning of Fall year 2, power gaming the whole time, and only have half as many barns for my Kegs/Preserves. Maybe its because I spent all of my money on Pigs and Fruit trees....

Skull cave, pumpkin soup, mega bomb if small level, stairs if large.

The bombs generate the stone for more stairs, mummies gives solar essences, and flying fish give void. It doesn't bring in enough gold, so you need to hit the bottom of the mine to replenish. Makes around 40,000 per run.

Buy the wood for barns and kegs, use the keg profits to buy more wood, enjoy exponential growth.

Since I've got the iridium sprinklers, I don't have to water at least... but yes, in order to make ranching even remotely worth it, it's a TON of effort (and I guess there's currently a bug with animals/mood? I read a long thread at reddit but couldn't quite parse it) for not a lot of money. The financial aspect doesn't bother me so much; I am not a min/maxer and make enough money off my crystalariums & preserves biz that whatever I make in cheese/mayo is just gravy.

I should probably sell off at least half my animals and just stick to having some around for fun.

I like the steady 4k from my mayo/cheese money, so even if I spend the entire day doing nothing but catch carp or talk to townsfolk, I'm still bringing in something and that's satisfying.

Hmm. I'll go see if I can't learn more about this mood bug. If the community is aware of it I expect someone's patched it or something, so...

e: Found it! This is fascinating to me, seeing how the game actually works.

e2: After reading through that, it seems like animals+happiness are completely broken, but it's also fine because cheese/mayo are way better than raw goods and don't care about how good the raw goods are. Oh Stardew.

Thats not true, higher quality milks make cheeses that start off at higher quality (which you can age to improve further). Mayo doesn't have a quality though, its all Miracle Whip.

Oh. Good for you, dude. Enjoy the hell out of that. You still may want to upgrade your watering can, though. If you hold down the mouse button with an upgraded can, it will first do a 3-space line, then a 5-space line, then a 3 by 3 box, then a 6 by 3 box. It makes it easier to do those middle-of-the-field areas. But, upgrading your can will take 2 days, so wait for the weather forecast to say it's gonna rain the next day, water, then go give Clint the can to upgrade. Go to him when he opens the day after it rains to get it back, and proceed as normal.

Mayonnaise can be higher quality, but I'm not if it's larger eggs or higher quality eggs that trigger it. And I don't think you can age mayo, or at least I would hope not.

I decided to do a few days of farming today and booted up Stardew. I was a good day! I dropped off a rusty spoon at the museum, and apparently that was the last piece I needed so Gunther stopped by and gave me the sewer key:

Oh nice my crop of pumpkins is ready, on exactly the day I wanted. I even have a a gold star :D

I think I will go to Pierre's shop today and pick up something I have needed for a while. Abigail is maxed out at 8 hearts, as we have a platonic relationship. I would like to change that, and quickly, and in front of Pierre. I know that Abigail comes into the shop at exactly 11:00am, so I will buy some flowers and wait

Now watch this slick move Pierre, I'm going to take you daughter from girlfriend to wife in one move. If you don't want to fool around with dating, and would like to have a wife tomorrow be sure to do this top-PUA maneuver. Give the flowers first, if she is not your girlfriend the hearts are wasted. Next I give her the golden pumpkin, her favorite thing in the world and top quality on her birthday. 8 stars become 10
