Halfway through building the First Order Star Destroyer. Pretty fun build, and I got a sweet shirt from Toys R Us, but god drat are there a lot of stickers for this thing. I cocked up the stickers at the forward area and it looks crooked as hell. Ah well, at least most of that poo poo will be covered up by the exterior.

I popped in the Leicester Square Lego store last night at about 9 because there was no queue outside for once. They had loads of the Ninjago City set on shelves (all with slightly beat up boxes, I noticed), and a kragled display version you could touch. Right next to it, I overheard a sales guy telling a customer that it'll be around for about a year easily, probably 2. So, no rush.

It's kind of funny looking at it vs some of the stuff that is available now. They keep calling it the biggest Lego set ever, and it's huge but come on. The Ninjago city is like 3/4 as many parts and only like 35% the price. It's super cool but $800 is bonkers. It's like a $400 set with 4000 extra greebles on it. It's no doubt one of the coolest sets they have ever done but the price it just absurd. This is where the Star Wars premium price tag becomes a joke. You are paying like $300 for licensing fees.

They also inflated the price to get a bigger slice from resellers. They aren't stupid, they saw what happened to the previous UCS falcon. It wouldn't be very capitalist if they didn't try to get a cut because this thing is guaranteed to be gobbled up. The fun part will be watching what resellers do. Typical 2x price, or a smaller percentage?

My prediction is that it will sell out day one when all of the whales roll in, and then collect dust for the rest of it's production cycle because seriously who wants to buy an $800 Lego set?

I have a hard time justifying any set over $200, barring stuff like Mindstorms. It's just way too much money. The old UCS Falcon's price was relatively reasonable, but $800 for this one? It's not as if you'll even get interesting parts, it'll be 30 bags of grey and charcoal plates and 1x1s. The minifig selection is decent, but not significantly different from what you can already get from recent sets (except Hoth Leia). I'm sure it'll sell like gangbusters and I don't fault anyone here for buying it, but I'm the exact target demo for that set and I have zero interest in it because of the price.

Holy poo poo. What is this insane pricing on what should be a £20 set? That's a tiny rear end set with only 2 minifigs? Also, porgs! The_Doctor fucked around with this message at 09:48 on Sep 1, 2017 |

Very true. I get the set and it looks really cool, but it will be a boring rear end build and its literally nearly all grey. £650 for that? No thanks. Ninjago city is huge and way more interesting, both visually and from a building POV. Like a lot of people have said, its a £300 set at most, until you stick Disneys licensing fees on top. I honestly cant see it being a huge seller. The price alone is a huge bar for most people, and not a single parent will buy that for their child.

The MF sits right in my sweet spot of nostalgia. I was 7 or 8 when the first movie came out and I've gotten into Lego as an adult. After buying just whatever looks cool for a few years I've settled into a few sub-themes. (Besides the bulk stuff I buy/sell on Craigslist). The MF is definitely something that should be a must buy. I can afford it and it looks awesome but don't think I can convince myself to spend $800. Its kinda nuts. Guess I won't have the next size up to go with these guys.

I'm wondering if anyone else is insane like me and collects entire themes? For instance, I have all the Pirates stuff save two of the redundant minifig packs. I have all the western stuff except for one and this led me into Lone Ranger stuff, too. I have all the Lego Movie and most of Batman movie, too. Too many Lego.

Just like the super star destroyer it is cheaper in australia to buy from the usa and reship it, even factoring in $100AUD for shipping its $200AUD cheaper, just like it was for the ssd. ($1100 reshipped vs $1300 local, $500 reshipped vs $700 local) Yeah also the price in general is loving inflated. Spookydonut fucked around with this message at 15:22 on Sep 1, 2017 |

I think that if you are patient/diligent you will be able to get the falcon for below retail at some point. Someone will screw up at some point. Baseline should be $800 - $80 w/ double points. Including tax in many states that works out to around $780. Based on other things that have gone on sale, price mishaps and/or coupons/whatever, I think $650 is pretty doable. Or just keep selling them on ebay and use profits to buy your own.

At least that's what I'm telling myself. Still kicking myself for not buying that $100 tie firghter.

Got way more free poo poo than I knew I was getting. Along with the scariff trooper and posters they gave me a cave man/cave girl set and a little 60 piece educational set. Pretty rad.I couldnt use my points though because I hadn't registered my card online oh well I've got $20 fun box next time I go. The fishing shack seemed like the hot item of the day. practically every one in line had one. All old dudes with their wives haha.

I've got an old rear end Lego Technic Control Center and some old motors (74569 and 71427). But the power cables are very brittle now and are breaking just by handling them (UV damage?) Would this cable work? It seems like only the bottom of the connectors are 9V compatible? So I assume: Control Center+71427 Motor = works Control Center+74569 Motor = does not work (because this motor has power connection on bottom) Is this correct, how can I get everything to work again?

Spent over two hours in the car today to go to the lego store for the NinjaGo City. Store opened at 10. I got there at 1pm. They were sold out. They advised to get there and line up before opening tomorrow for a chance to get one. I was loving right They also sold the last fishing shack when I was there. Not to me. Dumb Mango had it in his hands and put it back on the shelf to look for a Brick Bank. Someone else grabbed it and bought it. FML. The new falcon was on display and looks rad. Huge but rad.

How hard would it be the mount the new falcon flat against a wall? Like no visible shelf or anything, and maybe some backlighting between it and the wall. I'm imagining something like an array of hooks that slot into the modified bottom of the model.

You'd have to really take a look at where your intended hanging points are and how they transfer weight around them.

I watched the video and am now I am irrationally angry at the price of the model. I would love to buy it but 8-0-0 €. gently caress. I keep telling myself that it costs the price of a vacation or a bike for a bunch of admittedly very pretty plastics to display but it doesn't help. Imagine that thing inside a coffee table in front of your couch...

Well dammit, I spent a long night creatively wrapping a Black Pearl into a series of smaller boxes with a message for my girlfriend at each layer for her birthday. Of course I miss one bag of pieces needed and 'epic present' (her words) turns into 'you did that on purpose to torture me didn't you' . Whoops!
