Color me impressed by the balance. If I made something that tall that touched at 4 points it'd fall over before I could take a picture.

Thanks! It was actually easier thank it looks. I just built the main part of the legs and put the rear spikes on a heavy ball joint. From there is was just a matter of extending the rear spikes until the balance was centered, since it naturally fell backwards. It actually stands pretty rock solid and it takes a good push to knock it over. The little 1x1 cylinders on the bottom are pretty much the difference between it falling over when you look at it the wrong way, and comfortably standing.

I wonder if there are enough nostalgic nerds like me to make a new round of Ice planet or Blacktron I / II sets profitable. I like Star Wars stuff and all but it just isn't Lego Space to me. I suppose any of the old space lines would work but I wonder what would cater to the old dork demographic the most. For me it'd totally be Ice Planet or either flavor of Blacktron. There's plenty to choose from and I can't knock M-Tron or Futuron but if I had to choose it'd be Ice planet or Blacktron I.

They should really just occasionally roll out a few sets from classic themes with modern build techniques and soak up all the easy nerd money. They could even redo old sets. I'm sure they are aware of this and it's only a matter of time.

For real, they're already throwing Blacktron logos on minifigs from multiple lines. You can tease me all you want Lego but it just gets cruel after a while.

I did consider for a moment if Ninjago City is taking the place of a Creator modular this year, then I looked at the UCS Falcon and remembered that Lego loves money.

If they make a new space line that is reminiscent of the old stuff but uses more modern build techniques, it'd probably sell IMO. Is there anywhere one can check how well different product lines sold? I'd be interested to see whether the recent pirate sets did all right.

So, the Chinese Lego market is going into market for themselves. I live in Hong Kong, and I was at the big Sham Shui Po market yesterday, and there are three different Chinese building modulars, and they are pretty cool. If anyone is in the market for Lepin/LeLe and doesn't want to buy from alibaba, or wants something they don't have, I'm happy to help.

Ice planet/blacktron: very doubtful. Classic Space, yes.

I'll check and see. They definitely had them, I was just caught up in the Chinese architecture modulars to be honest, but those were ~2500 pieces and 380$ Hkd, or ~$50 usd ( a little less), not including haggling.

Here's a link to all four that I've found: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Xin...2824250896.html Using that link, you can buy all four for $347 with free shipping (at least to Sweden). There are some other small houses as well if you look around AliExpress a bit, but that seems to be the big four.

Yeah, XingBao's doing a Chinese building line and also has a Maritime Museum (which I have) and a Toys R Us. Due to the lawsuit, Lepin has been asking for fan designs which so far has included two modulars:

Zerf posted:Oh, didn't know about that. Just saw it while browsing AliExpress. Yeah, I was curious about the Lepin MOCs and dug into it. They've got like a dozen stolen MOCs over the different lines. Since they might have to stop copying Lego's plans at the end of the month, they've started asking fans to submit designs for them to make so hopefully that means they'll stop stealing fan designs. And if XingBao really is their legit arm, then maybe they're setting them up to take over and having Lepin just shut down.

I watched the movie Kill Switch recently, it wasn't very good but I guess the director and/or props guy is a fan of LEGO Space as there's some cool sets in one scene: The 6339 shuttle on the right brings back the most memories for me. The decals on the cargo bay doors span two four-stud hinged doors so for child me they lasted all of 2 hours before falling off.

When it was in stores, it was at that middle price point where it wasn't too cheap but wasn't too expensive. So basically everyone gave it to me for my birthday. I could probably build two of them with parts on hand, but it was actually a pretty lovely set. The hinges on the feet weren't strong enough to stand up to play and fell off a lot.

I got 5 of them as birthday/christmas gifts one year from different people since everyone I knew knew I loving loved Lego Space. One kid started crying at my birthday party because he got one for me, and then saw me open another one from a different kid there. It ruled though because it meant I got to have a god drat arsenal of Ice Planet rockets. Also, a million of those white wheels.
