The physical stores still always seem to have it.

palace cinema has a great exterior but I think i's just about the last modular I'd buy because I think the coolest thing about those is the interiors.

So, the 2012 series Monster Fighters happened while I was not really paying attention to LEGO at all. I missed it completely, which I now realize is a shame because it's 100% my aesthetic. Hell, my whole Animal Crossing: New Leaf town was entirely Halloween-themed. I decided that I at least need the Haunted House, but then I found a local reseller who recently acquired almost the entire theme. Here's what they got:

9461: The Swamp Creature
9462: The Mummy
9463: The Werewolf
9464: The Vampyre Hearse
9465: The Zombies
9466: The Crazy Scientist & His Monster
9467: The Ghost Train is the one set that is sadly missing
9468: Vampyre Castle
10228: Haunted House
Plus the full set of 71010: LEGO Minifigures - Series 14 - Monsters

They have it figured at $650 but they negotiate, and I'm pretty sure I could get it for closer to $550. I started typing this post intending to ask "should I go for it" but I guess that's a pretty subjective question. Still, what do you all think?

Going by Bricklink prices, that's fairly reasonable, possibly pretty good. The Zombies set has jumped way over retail for some reason, cheapest complete on Bricklink is $140.

I've purchased the whole thing and did okay for everything in terms of prices.

If you can get a Haunted House for $300 or lower, NEW, then you have a great deal. $330 is an average price.
If you can get teh Zombies for under $100 at all you have scored. It is really high because 1 - zombies are popular and 2 - the bride/groom are limited to that set and the bride has parts that are only in that set. So if you want a female zombie bride, this is the only way. I bricklinked the set after scoring a deal on ebay for the bride/groom at a bit lower than their normal cost. I think all told I paid about $85 total for the set.
The castle sells around $100.
That is $500 right there, before you get to the minifigs, train and other sets.

$650 is a very fair deal. They can definitely get that price. If they bite at $550 you have scored majorly. This is assuming all the sets are 100%. If they are brand new, $650 is a very good price and you should take it before someone else does.

E: also, because it is halloween-time prices are going to go up a bit.

Robodong update. He has arms (for now...) not sure what I think about it. Debating whether to keep them or turn his arm holes into small At-ST style guns and attach the big gun to his back. I kind of like the arms but I also think it might make it look too busy? Thoughts?

So keep the gun arm, lose the other one and stick a smaller gun on it? Not a bad idea I very well may do that.

Yeah, I think I need to beef the arm up or at the very least shorten it. It's too drat long for sure.

Trying it with guns instead of arms. Attached the big one to the back. Def looks more mechwarrior now. May or may not include the arms but yeah the big gun definetly needs to be on his back and not in his hands.

How is it not falling over backwards?!

Looking good but the color scheme is still not great. It just highlights the differences in structure between the upper and lower parts.

Just tweaking the rear pegs on the feet mostly.

Do you mean the Black/smooth look mixed with the gray/square makes the color scheme look weird? or the greens and yellows I peppered into it?

The reason I made the legs look so different from the top is that this was my (very) loose inspiration. the idea being that the legs are some super articulated/high tech deal and the upper part is pretty much a tank. idk if thats actually what it looks like to other people though.

I had an odd situation where I was sort of baby sitting that set for a friend for like 2 years and he recently took it back. So now I'm having trouble getting the motivation to go and pay $200 for a set I've already built and displayed for years, But at the same time it's a phenomenal set and I know I'm going tokick myself for not getting it for myself before it's gone.

If anything I'd actually say photos don't do it justice. It's a really great set. It's also very colorful for a Star Wars set.

Dogen posted:

I can't help but wonder why it sold so poorly. It's such a good representation of such a cool ship. i get that it's not in the upper tier of the most iconic SW machines, but it's certainly in line with the Slave 1 and some other UCS sets.

I really wish they would do a UCS A Wing. I kind of hate that UCS=bare minimum of $200 now. They could probably make a nice A Wing that scales well with the Red 5 for $130 or so.

How about UCS stuff that's not star wars. Like that completely absurd galaxy explorer that showed up on ideas a couple years ago. Or the mega core magnetizer.

Basically all they have to do is go through their catalog of sets, pick a few that have a ton of nostalgia, and quintuple the part count.

Park the sets around $4-500 to only appeal to the most autistic of us all and laugh all the way to the bank.

Big Mean Jerk

UCS A-Wing and Naboo Starfighter are on my Lego wish list. A-Wing seems like an eventual certainty, but I doubt we'll ever see the N1. It's a shame, because all the newer curved pieces from the last few years could really make a beautiful model out of that design.

My wish list along with the A wing would be tie bomber and interceptor. I also really want those in minifigure scale though. At least we got a stellar A wing this year.
