A webtoon I like is being translated by some fan group. http://kissmanga.com/Manga/Lovely-Again-Today The name's a pun in Korean but I guess they couldn't really get it through.

John's just being a violent jerk lately Also I started following lookism and it's just a bunch of cute adventures of idiots mixed in with occasional moments where it really tugs on the old heartstrings

I didn't think I would like this, but I do. Boyfriend of the Dead Surprisingly fun, the premise almost feels like it'd be similar to Warm Bodies but it goes in weirder directions. A girl alone in a zombie apocalypse manages to survive by being SO INCREDIBLY BRUTAL to the semi-intelligent zombies that they start to actively avoid her out of self-preservation. A quasi-gourmand zombie manages to befriend her (His goal is absolutely to eat her as he sees her as super-delicious prime meat) but things get wacky. Two kid zombies show up and goof off. It's dumb but fun.

I Don't Want This Kind of Hero has way more child murder than I thought it would. Can...can we get back to the comedy antics of superheroes in modern Korean society already?

gimme the GOD drat candy posted:oof. i'm starting to realize why no one liked john even in a society that idolizes the powerful. John's characterization actually kinda confuses me. Like, I can't really figure out how someone who is shown to have such a short fuse and great temper was able to maintain the passive, completely unfazed by anything facade for so long. It seems like it might be hinting at his personality from earlier in the series being a complete bullshit mask, given how we've seen Arlo (IIRC) internally thinking about how fake his interactions with Sera appeared. Like, it seems as if John's actions, despite previously seeming sort of virtuous (in a way that obviously impressed Sera), were actually done for the entirely selfish reason of wanting to make his own life better than it was when he used his powers (and the minute things became too tough to handle without his powers, he flipped back to super-powered rear end in a top hat mode). His dad even points this out and tells him he should just be honest with Sera. Honestly, if done right John could be a pretty interesting character, so I'm curious about where the author is going to take things. I wonder if it's heading in the direction of making John some sort of antagonist and (spoiler from recent-ish chapters, though I haven't read the most recent 2 or 3 yet) an unpowered Sera into the protagonist, if the effects of that shot were permanent anyways. One thing I kinda like is how they actually portray Sera's time powers as being just as bullshit as they would be in reality, and basically completely unbeatable unless you either have similar powers yourself or catch her completely off-guard. It's sort of like if the Flash's powers were treated as being appropriately unbeatable.

I have a suspicion that Sera will be de-powered, John will reveal his powers but become a complete rear end in a top hat, and Sera will teach him how to be strong without being a complete douche. I'm probably wrong though.

Man, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm super bummed out that Gosu has been picked up by the official website. I had already read to the end of the first part thanks to a recommendation by a guy here, but occasionally going back to see where the official translation is at (it's still super far behind fyi) is depressing because compared to the fan translation it's so much worse. Like, it would be a decent translation if I hadn't already read the unofficial one, but comparing the two it fails hard. I'm also sad because now that it's been picked up by Naver's English branch nobody will touch it, which sucks because Gosu is waaaaaay further on than this. It looks like I'll have to wait four years rather than two to see the next part in full, and that suuuuucks.

They'll be caught up in just four or five months. The really insane thing is that the fan translators are still translating, but not editing, chapters, and threaten to stop if anybody else uses their scripts to make a scan. I don't even

gosu really needs a competent translation because there is a cubic fuckton of subtle nuance in the character interactions later on. unfortunately, naver's translation is awful and it is very likely no one will ever put out a better one. rip gosu.

It took about a year, but Kubera is finally part of Kubera again! I was kinda expecting zombie Ananta to be the one to destroy the universe, not infinite Taraka hordes. This'll do for an hors d'oeuvre, I guess.

I'm purposely holding off on reading Season 3 so I can binge it all later. Kubera is very good and anyone who hasn't read it should read it. It really goes in unexpected directions, especially given that the premise lends itself to certain expectations.

It's funny Kubera should be brought up her, a few days ago I suddenly remembered that scene where Asha accidentally electrocutes her friend in the fire room and just slowly, silently closes the door on her after finding out Basically, gently caress Asha. I've also been holding off on reading Kubera, in my case I won't read the rest until it's over or just about over. Kubera is a slow burning kind of manhwa from what I remember, and I don't want to have to wait every week to read it. I just hope Agni and that snake dude FINALLY, FINALLY team up together before the end.

Just a note, Sweet Home, which is by the author of Bastard, is being released in Korean. 4 chapters were just released in English! http://www.webtoons.com/en/thriller/sweethome/list?title_no=1285 I've been reading the Korean version and it's very gripping enough that I paid to see the advance chapters.

So I finally tracked down and finished Refrain Love, the adult manhwa I was talking about before. It turns out that the site I originally read it on, before it went down, was only two or three updates away from finishing the whole story. It's a decent manhwa! It's basically Groundhog's Day with porn, and you know what, I'm fine with that. Now I'm wondering if I should catch up with Siren's Song, finish Sweet Guy, or catch up with that one comic with the demon lord who got demoted after slaying a god. I can't remember its name off the top of my head, but it was also a pretty good manhwa, it was very action packed and among the ones I just mentioned, probably overall the best because it's not just an excuse for porn, at least not to the point I got to.

So, against my better judgement, because I couldn't help myself, I looked on Naver's official Korean site, and looked at how many chapters of I Don't Want This Kind of Hero are left (the story is already done in Korea, it finished last year). We're down to the final 100 chapters!...meaning it will still take nearly two years to finally have the whole thing translated...God dang it. They need to start releasing the chapters two a week, although that would probably mean a drop in the comic's already bad translation.

I'm reading that "I Don't Want This Kind of Hero" webtoon you just mentioned and it is extremely funny. edit: At episode 32 now; this is genuinely a very good webtoon. Possibly one of the best I've read not by Ha Il-kwon. Sometimes about its style of humor clicks perfectly with me, and the plot starts to get really interesting despite it seeming more like a gag webtoon early on. edit2: Now I'm at 82. It is still very good. It's a completely different take on the "extremely powerful protagonist" idea than something like One Punch Man (and honestly better and more interesting in my opinion, though One Punch Man has a different sort of focus). If anyone else is reading Boyfriend of the Dead, it just got a whole lot more entertaining with the latest chapter. N, the main zombie, has been captured by the humans. While in captivity he's already befriended two more human girls, which seems to point towards the series turning into a harem comedy where the MC is a zombie and all the girls are humans. Warm Bodies meets I Am Legend meets japanese harem comedy.

Sindai posted:Yeah God of High School is great. One thing I like about God of High School is how it has it's own very distinct art style that doesn't just come off like someone attempting to replicate Japanese manga (which is the case with most webtoons/manhwa/manhua for fairly understandable reasons). Ha il-kwon or, to a somewhat lesser extent, SiU (Tower of God guy) are other prominent webtoon artists who have succeeded in doing this.

I like Tower of God a lot. The current arc feels like it needs to get somewhere soon but overall it's been a fun read. Lately I found Wind breaker and it's pretty sweet. Reminds me a lot of Rookies in some ways. Way funnier than I expected it to be and there's a good bit of character development.

That Works posted:I like Tower of God a lot. The current arc feels like it needs to get somewhere soon but overall it's been a fun read. One nice thing about Tower of God is how it's sorta similar to Hunter x Hunter in the sense of being willing to try totally new things each arc and introduce new characters (or in the case of ToG also keep around unexpected characters like Sasha and Boro, who I'm amazed are still around and doing things). They both give off a feeling of genuine creativity that is missing from most shounen/fighting manga/manhwa.
