I would have preferred a more ordered tournament structure. As hype as UI has been, there's never really been any tension in the tournament since U7 has owned everyone effortlessly.

Like I imagine a 10 v 10 structure of U7 vs. U11, have U7 go down like 5-2 early making the final 3 matches must wins.

Yeah but Prince of All Sparkles would be better if it came about when literally the entire universe is on the line as opposed to a random power up that had no real affect on the tournament.

Watching people (them, usually) jump in to blindside/save people has been infinitely more entertaining than the normal beam struggle atatatat wow this guys are strong nonsense that clogs up episodes. Best tactics, best trash talk, best friends forever.

Tournament brackets would have led to an even slower and more boring saga. As soon as things become "must-win" it becomes obvious that's what will happen.

My fav highlights of the ToP:

- Goku and Vegeta's final kamehameha wrecking the trio de dangers
- 17 and 18 owning U2
- Freeza loving Frost over
- Father / Son Kamahameha and Uncle Makankosappo that elimates U2 and U6
- Caulifa and Kefla wrecking most of the pride troopers

I mean, yeah there were a few bad episodes but otherwise everything has been a lot of good action.

ASK ME ABOUT KISSING A GHOST
When you think about it, Goku has used his friends' energy and/or friendship multiple times over the ToP (Spirit Bomb, Freeza giving him energy, Vegeta giving him energy. friendship UI powerup, friendship rage MUI powerup)

... but he still can't actually beat Jiren.

Another good option would have been to have a number of smaller battle royales. So each 'block' is one fighter from each universe. Would have allowed for a focus episode for each U7 fighter, while also allowing someone like Krillin or Roshi to actually matter in th long term.

Tony Hawk’s Kamehameha was easily the best move in this whole tournament and it’s not close

Ah gently caress I forgot about the Tony Hawk move. Yeah, that's great.

15 years ago if you told me Android 17 and Freeza teamed up to save the universe I would have said "gently caress off, that's some stupid fanfiction" and yet here we are and it's amazing :allears:

He did that a bunch of times last episode with hands and feet but there was so much going on, it didn't stand out as much as the first time.

He may only just now be getting any proper type of depth or characterization, but Jiren is still my favorite new thing to come out of this tournament. My favorite thing overall being how awesome 17 has become.

From what I've gathered, people hated Super 17 design and that arc had some of the worse animation in the entire series.

Personally I think he looks cool and it was clever for him to have the powers of all the androids.

That said, he didn't got much development since they were just tying loose ends.

Mixture of coming out of left field, accomplishing nothing in the overall scheme of things (aside from killing Krillin...again), starting with a cool premise that rapidly devolved into the Goku Show Yet Again, poor animation (maybe the lowest in GT standard?)

I mean, Goku got consistently dominated the entire fight and it was only due 18's involvement that he was able to win.

His arc was blatantly a product of a rushed schedule because GT was forced to continue beyond what it was meant to, giving us an arc that was even less creative than usual for GT (the main plot is taken straight from the Janemba movie, with enemies from Hell coming to Earth but accomplishing nothing, with a main villain that's just 17 again but with a worse design). The Super 17 fight was awful, with Goku acting completely out of character for Super 17's gimmick to work (energy absorption, so Goku fights as if he was Vegeta on steroids, shooting and shooting instead of punching the guy in the face). It also started GT's weird tendency to have Super Saiyan 4 be completely worthless and base Kid Goku be his strongest, ultimate form.

That said, hilarious in hindsight, Gero said 17 was always meant to be stronger than Cell. It sounded incredibly stupid and it was a lame as hell retcon back then but uhh...I guess Toei was right after all.

They've done a good job of having 17 not win through being straight up stronger than (top tier) people. He's winning via his barrier & infinite energy gimmicks, helping others, and trying to survive instead of charging in headfirst and spontaneously gaining progressively more sparkly forms.

His power level clearly wasn't even top 20 but the scoreboard is what counts at the end of the day.

One thing that really bugs me about Super is the auras are kinda distracting. I know colorful auras are like 30% of Dragonball, but I’m always relieved when they turn off the After Effects during certain fights. Wish 130 got that treatment to really appreciate the animation.

Naturally, being the best character 17 has the least intrusive aura.

He's like, definitely in the top 10 when it comes to actual power level.

The top 10 and the bottom 70 are not even close in power

1/2) Goku/Jiren
3) Vegeta
4) Kefla
5) Toppo
6) Freeza?

I wonder, hmm...

We know 17 is fourth in power from Universe 17, only behind Goku, Vegeta and Freeza. From other Universes: Jiren, Toppo, Hit and Kefla are or were matches for Goku, so they're all above 17. Anilaza also requiered a team effort, so that's above 17.

I don't think there's anyone else that'd genuinely be able to stand to 17 power-wise, putting him on a comfortable 9th place. That said, I agree with sassassin, the ToP has done a great job showing how 17 isn't neccesarily super powerful so much as he's extremely clever and knows how to use his infinite energy to his advantage.

I was gonna say 17's aura reminds me of Gohan and Krillin's post-Guru unlock auras, so it's a bit of a downer that it isn't cool like Goku and Vegeta's blue and Golden Freeza's red.

Edit: Anilaza was arguably the strongest person in the ToP being it took 5 people to take him down.

Gohan is easily more powerful than 17, raw power wise- he's roughly equal to SSJ Blue Goku and Vegeta and only falls short when they go to the next level of Kaioken and Sparkles

Anilaza might be third strongest or the strongest over all- we have no idea how he'd stack against a serious Jiren or UI Goku. Just that he was able to go toe to toe with the strongest fighters of U7 going mostly all out.
