If you travel along and have time to tinker with lens is worth it get go with 2 prime. I would go with 14/16 + one of the 23 lens.

I might be parting with my Fuji 14 here shortly, I just never use it. Fantastic lens though.

Could you share some of the photos or your thoughts on the 14mm?

I've got the 16-55mm/2.8 and want some primes to complement it rather than make it completely redundant.
The 14mm and Samyang 12mm are on my list, both because they are wider than what I have now.

I also want to get either the 23/1.4 or 35/1.4 to help reduce the bulk of carrying around the X-H1. Or maybe I'll get the pancake 27mm for the last word in compactness :v:

And then the 80mm macro. Obviously.

Hi there. I took the 14mm only on a White Mountain hike since I wanted to carry minimal gear. Took a lot of multiphoto panorama and selfies on the hiking trek. I actually spent time processed them in CaptureOne. 14mm is also a good street photography lens.

All at ISO 3200. I was feeling insecure because everyone else had $4k Nikon 300 primes, but I think I held my own.

The lens size is one of the reasons I'm shying away from full frame multi use bodies and going with APS-C for documentary/everyday use and plan to get a GFX for landscape and editorial work.

I’ve travelled alone and highly recommend dual wielding.

Use a dual camera strap and have a 5D4 + 100-400 II on one side and A7R2 +either the 16-35 2.8 III or 12-24mm on the other.

It’s a great combo and ensures you don’t miss anything. The 16-35 is pretty much as sharp as prime even wide open and same goes with 100-400’s center area.

You can even keep on shooting with the 5d4 when the weather gets rough while keeping the sony out of the element.

Wife wants to get back into casual photography. Her last digital was a Rebel of some flavor. She's been borrowing a friend's Sony mirrorless interchangable and really enjoys it. I think it is either an A6300 or A6500. I'm thinking something like that would make a good birthday present, but those two are significantly out of my price range. I'm also leaning strongly towards micro four thirds, due to the wide variety of lenses available. Would something like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX85 be a decent option? Used with the kit lens they seem to be around $425-$450.

The Gx 85 is awesome, I upgraded from an E-M 10 and I couldn't be happier. It's kinda heavy though, not sure if that might be important for your wife. The E-m 10 is a great camera too if you're not interested in video.

All is for the best, in this, the best of all possible worlds
Lumixes (Lumii?) have a bunch of neat little features, like automatic focus stacking and a mode that records 30 frames of 4K video beginning half a second before you hit the trigger. The Panasonic mobile app is one of the less crappy ones out there too.

On the down side, battery life is kinda mediocre and it's not the best low-light sensor out there. (Though nearly anything will be miles better than her old Rebel.)

But yeah, for $500 she'd probably be really happy with it. Grab a big SD card and some Chinese batteries to go along with it and go to town.

Weight isn't as big of an issue as size, and the 85 seems like it is pretty compact.

edit: pulled the trigger on a used 85 w/ the 12-32 lens.

Perfect for japanese selfie ladies with the flip out screen.

I've had my 4.00 X-T2 lock up once and I had to pull the battery. Fortunately I didn't lose any custom settings for whatever reason.

The 4.0 update caused me major headaches, updated when it was released, had a shoot this weekend and didn't realize they had already rolled it back. X-T2 was locking up frequently, as in almost every 10 minutes, super irritating because I had the grip in AND it was raining, so having to take it apart to pull the battery was super frustrating for all of us. Wish I had seen the reports before heading out, would have rolled back.

Guess that's what I get for "early adopting," wonder what the actual cause was - and did they test it before release? Anyway, rolled back to the future for now. Should know better than to trust any product to be bug free, which is a shame because Fuji has been GREAT so far.

Hey guys; I'm looking for suggestions on a mirrorless camera

I'm trying to find something thats well built, can produce excellent video, and motion/etc isnt a huge deal - most shots will be stable / indoors.

Ideally I'd like something that has an HDMI output that I can just capture via PC capture card to mix down with mic audio at time of recording for the sake of ease.

Eyeballing:
- A7ii - seems to be geared towards still photography, but fine enough for video?
- A7s - seems to be even better for video? Still not entirely clear on my understanding
- 7D Mk2 - (I know it's not a mirrorless, but also seems to fit the need?)

Most shots will not be moving whatsoever and will be just product-esque shots / demo video snippets.

Trying to stay under $1500 with body/lens but I have some wiggle room.

Thoughts?

For that budget, Panasonic GH4, and if it fits in your wiggle room, a 12-35mm f2.8 lens. Or depending on the focal length requirements, one of any number of excellent primes.
If you want to save a bit for external mics/more lenses, etc., the G85 would also be a good option.

You totally broke me after reading up.

Now I'm debating between:

GH4 + Speedboster + Sigma 18-35
or
GH5 + Panasonic 12-35

For mostly indoor/studio use; the GH4 seems like a no-brainer (given the cost), but then I think about the additional flexibility for handheld use with my kids once in a while and it seems less obvious what the choice is.

If only Milliband had eaten a vegan sausage roll instead of a bacon sandwich, we wouldn't be in this mess.
I just got myself a GX80 (85 in the US) when the price dropped to £350 with £50 cashback. This is my first 'proper' camera and I'm putting together my list of 'what else I should be getting'.

I got it with the 12-32 kit lens, which I've read is pretty decent, but am wondering what couple of other lenses I might need to think about getting. Ideally keeping the price down, this isn't going to end up as a half-dozen lenses (at least not that i'm planning now). ATM I'm expecting it to mostly be for landscape, architecture/buildings when we travel and photos or videos of my malamute.

I have some 64 and 128 gig micro SDXC cards so I figure that's covered, and will pick up another battery and a separate charger for it (handily also working with the TZ100).

Apart from the lenses, can anyone recommend a decent camera bag for it, ideally one that will let me carry both the cameras as well as another lens etc?

You get dual IS with that body and lens combo, which is probably more useful than just faster glass for video, but I'm not an expert when it comes to that.
