The best part about Christmas Evil is how different it is that what you'd expect if you go in blind. It's not at all just another killer Santa movie, not even close. It's like a Christmas themed Taxi Driver.

I went in about as blind as can be. My weekly horror group was supposed to be showing Silent Night, Deadly Night but the print was hosed up and unplayable so the guy running things brought Christmas Evil. I knew literally nothing about it, didn’t even know it existed. And then that ending hit

Has anyone picked up any of the Vinegar Syndrome 5 films 5 years sets? I usually don't go for the more pornographic things they have, but they seem like some decent variety in what they sell.

I have all four. The horror / exploitation discs are all good grimy 42nd street trash. I already had some of the DVDs for titles like The Cut-Throats, which is a movie I really enjoyed, so I didn't even think twice upgrading. The porn discs... depends on if you dig vintage adult movies. I'm old enough to remember watching Ribald Tales of Canterbury on VHS on a 6-hour SLP tape, so the jump in quality was massive. Kind of surprised that the first two sets are still available. I figured that they would've sold out within a couple of weeks.

I guess the big thing is I don’t know what to expect with vintage adult films. I’d get them if I knew they were kinda raunchy and goofy. I mean a title like Hot and Saucy Pizza Girls has to be pretty goofy, right?

HASPG is great, but the other four on that set don't really have plot sections compelling enough to outweigh the boring sex. The second 'erotica' set is better about that with it's Dracula and Kung-Fu porno flicks. Baby Rosemary is also a good grimy exploitation movie in it's own right. I'd already seen that on their streaming service. Haven't got to the other two yet. The exploitation/horror sets are flat-out good. UK label Indicator is releasing William Castle at Columbia Vol 1 in October. Limited to 6000 copies. It’ll include 13 Ghosts, Homicidal, The Tingler, and Mr. Sardonicus. Tons of extras. It’ll even have both the B&W and Illusion-O versions of 13 Ghosts. Tons of extras, too. All their Sony releases have been region free so far. Shout! will probably do their own box though.

I missed the Trylon viewing, but I got my parents’ car while they’re out of town and the ticket was so loving cheap, $9 after fees, that I said gently caress it. I probably wouldn’t have been productive anyway lol. Trylon has been the best discovery for me this year. My first time going was their Predator run after X-Mas. Never saw Predator before, so it was a ton of fun. Went to every week of their Paul Verhoeven month and I plan on seeing Once Upon a Time in the West and maybe the Man w No Name trilogy this month. I love Trylon! Actually, that’s why I grabbed Deep Red, they had a trailer before ROBOCOP or Basic Instinct but aren’t doing a showing. My girlfriend was interested and I saw it on the Arrow sale so here we are. EDIT: Battle of Algiers rules, I know I gushed about it a page or two ago but I cannot emphasize how much I like it. It took the Pentagon awhile to host viewings after the insurgency in Iraq kicked off, which is funny because you can draw the line in 30 seconds. According to some recent Blu-ray.com reviews, it looks like Shout! Factory has massively improved the quality of their encodes. All the recent reviews indicate nearly maxed-out bitrates for video.

Where can a dude legally get a copy of Funny Games that plays in the US? Either version is fine but I'd prefer the 2007 American remake. Blu-Ray only, get that DVD nonsense out of my face. I'm trying to buy a copy for my friend too so I'd appreciate if the price isn't ridiculous but if there's nothing that can be done I understand. It seems like Amazon has several copies available, but they're all through third-party sellers and not through Amazon's warehouses, so the answers as to which region they are are absurdly inconsistent.

From what I could find from blu-ray.com research it looks like there are 2 UK copies that are region free and one Canadian copy. The UK copy that’s a close up of Naomi Watts face is the bad one. The other two are good. They don’t look like they’re available at the moment.

It's pretty much a Criterion-level release, complete with a thick booklet.I, Butthole posted:I picked up The Connection and Portrait of Jason, thanks. They're both amazing films - I ordered all the Shirley Clarke releases except for Portrait of Jason, which I got during their last sale. Also got Film and NotFilm. I might do a thread on Shirley Clarke after watching Ornette and all the "Magic Box" films. Only ones I've seen on the latter are Robert Frost: A Lover's Quarrel with the World, Bridges-Go-Round, and Skyscraper. All excellent. Clarke is one of the best filmmakers no one knows about.

Speaking of Haneke, I sprang for that big French blu ray box a while back and it was a Very Good Decision. It doesn’t have all his movies and the ones included don’t all have subs, but everything not found in the box (which I believe is just everything from The White Ribbon onward) or lacking English subs is readily available on subtitled blu separately. I think the only one he directed that I haven’t seen so far is that opera. Highly recommended for anyone who can play region B blus and enjoys extraordinary movies.
