they probably framed the shot poorly and wanted to center the family in the middle, so they clone stamped a bunch of new bench and trees behind it.

That last set were roundly mocked in the best photographer thread a few pages back. The clients posted them on Fb to show how terrible they were and the photographer's excuse was that her photography course didn't properly explain post-processing. She has a portfolio site full of very bad photos.

suck my woke dick posted:what makes you angry about the 5200 that will be better with ff On the 5200, NOTHING is button+wheel based except for shutter length. On my D90 I can move my thumb to a button and change Ap/ISO/WB/shutter w/o moving my eye. On the 5200 everything has to be done via the software menu, which means i have to look at the screen. The shutter length direction is backwards from all my other cameras and isn't a tuneable, so i have to remind myself every few shots to turn the dial the *other* way to fix the exposure. It seems that the move from consumer to prosumer/pro makes thing jsut work simpler.

Eventually, when I inevitably fill up my 1TB of Lightroom storage, I might migrate images over to Amazon, as I’m a Prime member and it’s my understanding that I get unlimited space there. Does anyone know of a way to transfer a shitload of files between online services that doesn’t involve using local storage as an intermediate step? I’m not worried about losing files or anything like that, but the fewer steps the better...

For the price and happened to be available, why not full frame. I'll probably get one one day anyway, and that one happened to still be available.

My Mom's BFF wants me to shoot her mother's 90th birthday party. Sure, I'll do it, Mom's friend is effectivley my )aunt. Her oldest son was in my graduating class, his little brother was in my brother's class. She offered $40. Bitch are you serious? Two hours of hammering the shutter button for the newspaper got me $40, but editing and retouching and copyright release so she can take them to Walgreens and get prints is $30/hr minimum (retouching time included in billable hours) with the family discount. Mom has promised to make up the difference between the $40 and my actual fee, that's how close they are. TLDR: how much should I charge my mother for covering a two-hour birthday party for her BFF's mom, including editing, materials (burning a CD/a USB thumbdrive), day rate, and creative fee? $400 in my pocket at fhe end lf the day? Maybe $300 with the family discount?

How much would you charge to pass a full-frame DSLR plus vertical grip and short telephoto through your genitals? That's the credit note your mom has on you.

Consumer and advertising industry pricing structures are wildly different for a reason. I mean unless this 90yo lady has hundreds of thousands of social media followers I guess. Second of all, your mother already gave you that $300 by not spending it on an abortion.

It's not the mom that's offering the job, right? It's a little gauche to take money from her when she's not the actual client. I'd turn it down, doesn't seem worth the trouble.

Talk to the BFF and explain how much you need paid for the work, a lot of people don't get photography rates as they rarely interact with a photographer. Your mother shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Don't take your mom's money. Tell mom's friend how much time you'll actually be spending and suggest something a bit more fair.. maybe like $200 telling her they you would generally charge $600 to do the same thing for randos..

I really can't find a better thread to stick this question. The wedding thread is archived. I'm getting married at the end of fall. I've hired a photog for the big day but now the fiance wants a videographer as well. Shes showing me examples and either they're not good or my expectations are way too high. Well rated videographers with bad white balancing, poor panning, slowmo 29.97fps stuff, camera flashes, artificial lens flares. I'm getting tired of looking. The budget is between $1000-2000. Does videography pricing not scale the way photographers do? I know everything about videography is expensive but I have no basis for comparison. The only acceptable videography I've seen comes from a national outfit charging around $2500 for the wedding and a few hours of reception. How do I pick a videographer?

I've got a dumb Nikon adaptor for my A6000 with an aperture ring which controls the (G) lens aperture that has 15 settings. Is there a way to give a good estimate of the actual aperture? Like if 1 = F1.8 and 15 = F22, would it be a linear increase between those, or are there all kinds of variables?

um excuse me posted:I've hired a photog for the big day but now the fiance wants a videographer as well. How much are you paying the stills photographer? A friend of mine used to be a full-time wedding photog (as far as I know he hasn't shot one for a couple of years, having done it for about a decade) and his rates started at $5000 for the day. $2500 for a videographer seems like a low-ball to me. You seem to know what you want (or at least, what you don't want), if you hypothetically adopt a much higher budget, like $8000 for the videographer, what kinds of example videos can you find?

$5000 is on the high-end for most people, mine was $3000 which is about the average.

Holy moley, okay. Budget seems unrealistic by comparison. I'll have to re-evaluate. I am by no means uncomfortable paying artists what they deserve. Thanks for the information. The photog came in a friends/family deal along with an added discount for my previous photographer dumping us when I said the photography hour would be in the evening after the sun went down. I even offered to rent lighting for her

Is it possible to get Lightroom to crop all my horizontal photos to a 16x10 format upon importing? EDIT: And/or a better (faster) way of getting all my photos to 16x10 format? In fact i need to do a big export to 16x10 and the same photos to 16x9, so i suppose i need to do this resize during export. How do i know where the cropping will be done? An equal amount of pixels in from each edge? Ineptitude fucked around with this message at 18:57 on Aug 16, 2018 |

Ineptitude posted:Is it possible to get Lightroom to crop all my horizontal photos to a 16x10 format upon importing? I know in their subscription-based desktop app you can select which settings you copy and past to different images (cropping/aspect ratio isn't carried over by default). You might have to fiddle with the framing a bit, as I seem to recall that it'll apply the crop to the same position on the new frame as the image it was pulled from.

Did anyone else get an Arsenal? Maybe I haven't found the right use for it yet, but it seems like complete dogshit. It takes markedly worse photos than an iPhone, can't find focus, and like half the claimed features don't exist yet. The one point of credit I would give it: It can create "long exposures" in daylight conditions (without filters) by stacking back to back photos. This, of course, is then negated by the fact that you can only export the stacked photo via the phone app, and the resolution/IQ is terrible. If you're considering buying one, don't.

I shoot in RAW+JPG, is there a way to have Windows 10 or Photo Mechanic delete just the RAWs of culls, but leave the JPGs? I find it useful sometimes to be able to go back use them as reference shots, so I'd like to keep the JPGs, but get rid of the RAWs in the interest of space.
