I have a coworker that is young and online. If I hear "top kek" or "roflcopter" or whatever loving memes are a thing now one more time I may scream. Oh god this is what I was like in my 20s with the 35+ sysadmins. God I was such a tool.

I used to support (grad)students at a university and currently work with two people in their mid-twenties that essentially joined the workforce after high school. It's interesting to see that the difference in education creates a totally different online experience for people in the same age group (This has been observed in some research done on the subject as well). Now onto the annoying point of that observation: these guys have no loving life outside of video-games and video-game talk, my god. More fun Observation: Current colleagues are pretty okay computer-touchers for most stuff, way better than higher educated University students of the same age. But things start falling apart fast when they have to research stuff and then the students pull ahead.

LethalGeek posted:Even with all the modern tech lawyers will make Word cry in ways I didn't think was possible. Also their stupid need to have everything in one document and then they wonder why Word & Acrobat start going bonkers dealing with 2500 page files. I am shocked on a pretty much weekly basis that there isn't a word processor available today that emulates even a small subset of WordPerfect 5.1's command set. Back in the early 90s when I was at Software Etc., our bestselling books were routinely intermediate and advanced WP5.1 volumes.

It's shocking how much every part of this looks like a UI that Google would absolutely consider perfectly adequate to release to the public.

A lateral move, or so it's called to avoid giving me a big raise, but I'm no longer a screwdriver jockey as of next week. I'm moving over to support the R&D, QA, and manufacturing labs at $BIG_PHARMA. That'll be much more project-y work with some fun Active Directory stuff to do. :woot:

vcentre server is not network-contactable right now. Can you please eyeball it and see what’s going on? Looks like it’s in System Critical shutdown. One of the power packs has failed. Pull the power plug to the server wait 5 secs plug it back in. It only needs one of the power supplies to run which would mean that both have failed. I’ve done that and changed the power supply port it was plugged into but the PPM error did not clear and the machine remained in system critical shutdown. That power supply has been dead for quite a while now; I wonder whether that’s a red herring in this instance. What is this “system critical shutdown”? Is it an OS message? Does it need a hard reset? This is the current state: Internal Health LED: Flashing red Manual says this is “System critical. To identify component in critical state, refer to Systems Insight Display LEDs” External health LED: Flashing red Manual says “Critical power supply failure. To identify component in critical state, refer to Systems Insight Display LEDs” Power On LED: Amber Manual says “System shut down, but power still applied” System Insight Display LEDs are as follows: Right Power Supply: Amber – “Failure” Right PPM Unit: Amber – “Failure” PPM = Processor Power Module: I think this warning is new. We might be in the market to buy a new one (or at least popping the lid and reseating it): Can we pull the power from both power supplies wait 5secs plug back in ? have you done that already ? Hi all, I pressed the power button and it went green and all the warnings disappeared.

Here's a friendly reminder to prevent some tickets coming in if you still have Windows 7 machines and O365, don't forget O365 is going TLS 1.2 only on October 31st. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3140245/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-a-default-secure-protocols-in Hope you have KB3140245 installed along with a GPO to push the registry key out!
