Eric the Mauve posted:Performance reviews are bullshit everywhere, but an especially poor grade of bullshit in retail and you should ignore them. This judges my raise this year. I'm straddling the line of getting the second tier raise, this is assuming the store director agrees with all points my manager made. If he disagrees and subtracts even 1 single point I'll be on the lowest raise tier this year.

Kalsco posted:Expecting regular employees to cover their own asses if they call out/are sick isn't their job, nor should it ever be an expectation. It's management's. My manager, and any competent manager for that matter would be absolutely furious if an employee did that. She absolutely hates it when people swap shifts or get someone else to cover without going through her. That being said, the general attitude to taking time off around here is somewhere in the vicinity of 'ok then; just let me know when you feel like working again and I'll re add you to the schedule'. My store seems to be super lax even by Australian standards. I mean we get 11 paid sick/personal days per year, which is pretty typical - I think the legal minimum is 8 days, but we have sick leave/bereavement leave/carers leave etc all rolled into one lump sum - but plenty of people go well and truly beyond that. One of the front end supervisors called in sick (on short notice) 56 times between September last year and April this year, and he was never so much as formally cautioned even though it was pretty widely acknowledged that he wasn't genuinely sick the vast majority of those times.

Update on the three pallets from last night: The team did not finish working them. They left an entire roll cage of exercise books (roughly half a pallet, so four people worked 2.5 pallets over 6+ hours). My line manager told me to 'be nice' when I started laughing, but I think he might be starting to realise that maybe something is rotten in the state of Denmark?

I bet Penta and her coworkers already have a decent idea who’s doing it though, every store has its regular creeps unfortunately.

not gonna doxx myself but I work at a place with a big halloween season (not spirit/pop-up halloween stuff) and apparently kids were out of school today so we're like twice as busy as usual and only had a few people scheduled for the morning, and a bunch of people called to say they'd be late for the afternoon lmfao

Yawgmoth posted:The fun thing about having a job lined up is that those last couple shifts should not matter to you at all. Give them exactly the quality of work they make you want to give them, and if that department head throws some fit at you, just drop whatever you're holding and say "I don't need to put up with this poo poo. Do it yourself, I'm done now." and walk out. Retail jobs aren't the kinds of jobs most places call for references anyways. It probably won't be bad enough for me to do that, the department head will probably take it out on not-me either way. I just want my vacation payout!

Well I kept my middle tiered pay raise. It was a bit condescending though as the store director said something like "make sure you're keeping up your punches" at the start of the review as if I A: Had ANY late punches and B: Had multiple none punches.

I usually mention stuff like that to employees as a reminder so they don't get in trouble. Not in a mean way, just stuff like "Hey, if you honor an online coupon make sure you write down a short reason" if I see that while I'm signing their stuff.

First is the creep I've talked about before who still is allowed in our cafe because nothing was done about his creepiness. He was present in the cafe the first time the jizz happened but I thought it was too obvious to be him Second is a good looking dude who I can't remember if he was there that night it first happened, but was present most recently. He does not look like the public bathroom masturbator type but you never know these days. Both men camp out in our lobby for long periods of time and use the bathroom multiple times. One lives in his car and is not a paying customer, the other buys a venti black iced coffee every time and has a very nice truck. The jizz only happens when I'm the shift on duty. It has not happened to anyone else. Yet.

Had five days off in a row and today was my first day back. Of course the last day that I had off that chairman of our department in our company walked our department, we did terrible. So now I'm being told she's coming back to chew me out next week! Did I mentioned we're still going through a remodel and we have two new guys that never held job before and another new guy starting the week after next? Is it an excuse that my morning guy is losing time because he has to off stack frozen grocery and cheese from pallets to get to our stuff? Is it my fault that this happens because grocery department has people calling out sick or quitting? Is it an excuse that my new guys still have a lot to learn in order to be proficient? Is it an excuse that I multiple times asked for schematics for our new cases from multiple people from management and kept getting the run-around from everyone? What's worse is that she for sure is coming back in town on the day we have inventory... what the gently caress. I could go on and on, but at some point I need to say, enough is enough.

The corporate suits are worthless assholes who, for the most part, have never worked the floor or did it so long ago that they have no idea how it's changed. They're worthless, and they're pests. Not all of them, sure, but most of them. They have very narrow views about how things should be done, usually read off a piece of paper, maybe one they wrote. Sometimes there's some good guidelines. Often they're about as well-grounded as a mudslide. Our friend ijii could tell this person, "I'm one man, the people under me are under-trained and their time gets drained by work outside my department." He could lay out all his problems, and ask for advice, for help. And I promise you, promise you, this person would take his explanation as excuses, talk over him, and then roll into some bullshit about rising to the challenge and giving 110%, like some washed up actor from a B-grade 90's teen sports movie. The irony of it all is that she's going to waste his time, showing him all the work he knows isn't done, telling him how to do the job he already knows how to do, and by the end of it, he'll be more behind than if she died in a tragic powerpoint related accident back at corporate HQ. If there is one goddamn job on this planet where something good comes of having the leadership "down in the trenches", I'd be shocked. Might as well send a general to do a sergeant's job.

My boss, the logistics person, left our store to move back home on Tuesday and her replacement won't be here until Nov 2. Predictably, our backroom and receiving area has gone to absolute poo poo. Now I get to spend five hours restacking pallets so they don't tip over the second they leave the floor.

Found out the couponer got pissed at the new boss, because instead of saving toys for her, he donated them to Harvesters. Apparently she then used the bathroom, and clogged the toilet with a whole roll of toilet paper. Going to enjoy telling her to gently caress off.

this is our last busy week of the season, leading up to halloween, and one of our managers just decided to stop showing up because she ran off with a married man and one of her kids and cut off her family and said she doesn't feel like coming back to work for the love of god I hope she's okay and just making a really loving stupid decision and not actually getting kidnapped or murdered here but I have idea what's gonna happen she's 22 and has been trying to gently caress the married store manager and I guess she gave up and hooked up with another married dude but like. come on calm down I'm in the position she was when she got promoted to manager so I'm probably next in line because I'm more reliable and have open availability and lol I don't want that responsibility or the hours so good luck finding someone I guess meanwhile the other managers are having to pull 12+ hour shifts and I had to come in earlier today. this weekend is gonna be hell lmfao snoo fucked around with this message at 19:29 on Oct 24, 2018 |

Today someone passed me the buck. On Monday, she is going to learn why that is a bad idea. She called in sick just to avoid covering a coworker's shift, leaving me holding the bag and picking orders for my old department instead of covering my own department. I've arranged with my manager and the acting-as-store manager for her to be solely responsible for picking orders on Monday (and will be walking out if she isn't). This is 100% spite on my behalf, but both managers have selfish reasons to back me on it, so I'm very confident it'll happen. I pick orders on Friday, and can directly influence how bad Monday orders are

lmao today they just dropped that manager position offer on me (not for a few weeks yet but...) and I'm so conflicted cos I really really really don't want to work full time but I probably could handle the responsibilities just fine in the mean time I'll be doing some of the previous manager's job for the same lovely supervisor pay lmfao thx guys going from never having a real job in my adult life outside of a short seasonal position 3? years ago to potentially being a manager in less than a year at this place is loving hilarious. their bar is super low

More hours, more pay, more responsibility. It looks good on a resume. Take it, bank some money and experience and see what you can turn it into.
