I was already probably not going to bother watching this, but what I've seen said about it so far, I'm actively avoiding watching this on Netflix, holy gently caress. I'll keep my fond memories of watching bits and pieces of the ADV dub on the Anime Network. ("The First Children"...fucks sake, even if that was forced in by the Japanese, someone should have found the balls to tell them how absurd it sounds in actual English.)

the scene where Shinji barges into Rei's apartment actually low-key owns, because the whole point of it is that Rei doesn't regard him sexually at all and the entire thing just makes it impossible for them to talk to each other normally until a few episodes later

Eh, I don't have any qualms with telling people to watch Rebuild 1 instead of the first few episodes if they're not sure about the series. I actually like the pacing there better than I do 1-6. Meanwhile apparently the PTBR dub made all the silly localization changes the English dub lost, loads of modern slang and poo poo.

The rebuild movies are generally held as best experienced after you've seen the show so you can see the divergences. Why settle for "pretty much get it" when they can just "actually get it"? Watching the rebuilds when you want to watch some Evangelion... could it be that you saw the TV series first and you've got such a grasp of Eva that you can just watch the movies and that's fine but maybe that's not a good way to introduce people to the thing? I dunno though, it feels like when 100% of the thread (oops, 100% minus one guy who says movie 1 and then tv series) is telling you that your thing is weird it might mean your thing is weird.

I think I've said this before but the Adam/Lilith stuff in the show is confusing enough as it is without throwing Rebuild 1's explicitly different take on that whole plotline into the mix.

Rebuild is also extremely The Ikari Shinji Show and leaves out a lot of the Misato-centric stuff which, while it's reasonable for a movie to be more focused than a TV series, is a pretty major sacrifice of something interesting and worthwhile especially if you're watching it for the first time as an adult

If you're already down for watching a ton of stuff and know you've got 90s tv anime (one of the best ones, too) and all that entails coming to you? Watch it all. Another one wasn't that interested even after that. that's a real person really watching eva for the first time existing here in brazil 400km from where i live, definitely (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)
