caligulamprey posted:TLJ is the only Rian Johnson/Star Wars film I like. on that second count, honestly. There were parts of this trailer that didn't hit for me, but Brothers Bloom also had poor trailers and I love that film. Brick may not be some neo-noir revelation, but it's a solid, fun flick that I really dig, too. Looper's great even if its tonal shifts don't do it any favors, and TLJ was a minor miracle. Knives Out is playing with a subgenre that I love and it looks like everyone is having a blast. By this point Johnson has more than proved himself in my book. feedmyleg fucked around with this message at 18:16 on Jul 3, 2019 |

keanu strikes me as a really nice and cool guy who has turned all the grief he’s experienced into kindness for other people and a very un-hollywood attitude towards life. it is unironically a shame that he couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag

Keanu's a great actor with a narrow range. Cast him in the right roles and you get gold, cast him in the wrong roles and you get, well, Much Ado About Nothing. There's tons of great actors that you can say the exact same thing about.

Looper is great, his Breaking Bad episodes are great. I thought The Last Jedi was pretty good, but I try not to judge a director on their assembly line studio films. Ryan Coogler is fantastic and he made Black Panther which is dog poo poo.

The last time I heard of him was when he showed up at E3, at the presentation which announced that they were making a sequel to a cult classic game that everybody had been wanting a sequel to, but without the characters and not continuing the story and the game was going to be completely different and also would probably never come out and then Levitt walked out and explained it was part of his new art collective thing where fans could send in fan art that would be used in the game and in return they would receive no money.

Also, no matter how many years ago it was, people still watch and discover The Godfather and it's not just nerds. I didn't mention Hitchcock because I was sticking to directors who are still alive, but I think he falls into the same category. That's not to say that the average person can name 5 Hitchcock films but it's a name that people know.

Its crazy to remember that at one point people thought he was going to be the next Depp or DiCaprio, going from a popular TV show to some critically-acclaimed indie movies as a teen like Brick and Mysterious Skin and then being taken under Christopher Nolan's wing in Inception and Dark Knight Rises...then Don Jon came out and you could feel his career deflating as everyone realized that his big blank check passion project was a movie about how, like, aren't romance movies the same thing as pornography if you really think about it maaaaan...

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is going to be worse than Shenmue 3. I don't know if Shenmue 3 is gonna be good or not, but it's going to at least bring some sort of resolution to the cliffhanger from 17 years ago. Could you imagine how deflated the audience would have been if Yu Suzuki announced that Shenmue 3 was a prequel?

People don't want Shenmue 3, they want a time machine to take them back to 2001 when they had endless free time to putter around a small city waiting for people to slowly shuffle from their houses to their workplaces and playing hours of virtual gashapon and when the medium was so young things like "voice acting" and "3d environments that actually looked like real places" were mindblowing novelties to kids who grew up playing nothing but Sega consoles. Even when it was new didn't review or sell very well because outside of the production values it just wasn't a very good game to anyone outside of that very specific mindset, and 3 isn't even going to have that going for it because it's a crowdfunded Unity game. It was such an rear end-backward product of hubris that the voice actor for the main character was picked not on his actual voice acting but on his ability to do real martial arts, on the grounds that the game would become such a phenomenon that they would need him to play the role in the real world as well. It's Sega's equivalent of Nazi Germany puzzling over designing architecture that would still look good 1,000 years in the future while the Allies were rolling up on them.
