The local youth club being dominated by neo-fashists is also a big influence. Imagine 30 years of the "cool" kids making racist jokes without anyone telling them off or spouting racist edgy bullshit and then all the not so cool and/or the dumb kids just repeating that poo poo to each other and whoever speaks up gets made fun off. You get an entire social sphere where everyone thinks it's 100% normal to have racist opinions and is used to saying them out loud.

There are a lot of (white) 14 year olds who are solely socialized by PewDiePie et al. and are continuously blurting out racist edgy poo poo, then when told off about it will always tell you that it was just a joke.

Any other NRW goons currently enjoying the sound of all warning sirens going full blast? It rules that even though I know it's a regularly scheduled test, it totally triggers the Mad Max center of my brain

NRW goons, I have a question for you while you're on high alert. I'm a mostly-clueless foreigner moving to Düsseldorf next month. My wife is from Hagen so has been around there a bit but mostly knows the Stadtzentrum, Königsallee, etc. and I suspect still thinks it's all bougie enough to burn to the ground. Any recommendations for interesting things to do or general cool neighbourhoods beyond the standard touristic stuff?

A majority of arguments for voting for the Afd are based on the assumption that foreigners are the source of most everyday problems for these people like "we didn't lock our doors in the GDR and now I can't even leave the house without turning on the expensive security system" or " I don't feel safe in the streets anymore and don't send my kids alone anywhere" or "we could have spend the money for the refugee center on patching up the roads", etc. It's absolutely legitimate and good to point out that there are no actual foreigners/barbarians at the gates and all their problems must have another source

Teutogoons, I need job advice. I've spent the last decade in Western Europe but I'm thinking about coming home. I have a PhD in a semi-technical field and spent the last year touching data for a financial institution. I'm perhaps taking a job now for a company that does 'Big Data Things'. With that background, where do I look for jobs/recruiting contacts? I'm used to talking with recruiting agencies, but none of the ones I used work for German firms.
