Ah, I assume you've encountered what happens when 1. Give a scruffy nerd a magic mark that makes delinquent girls attracted to him 2. Introduce said nerd to a woman who is 1,000% in on dominating big buff men 3. Disguise the nerd as a girl 4. Give up the disguise during a showdown.

Birds of Shangri-La All of the first volume of Zariya's newest one is finally online. It's less smutty so far than you'd expect a Zariya manga set in a brothel would be (there is smut just to be clear). The relationship between Phi and Apollo is a very slow burn and it was refreshing that Apollo being straight meant he was actually fairly unresponsive to Phi coming onto him vs how a lot of guys in BL are "straight" -- the emotional connection they're building is more important and it's nice that part isn't being rushed. There's also the issue of the job rules that mean any romance between them could get Apollo fired, and I appreciate that he's aware of that and able to put on the brakes despite Phi pushing his boundaries. I'm really curious what's going on with Apollo's back story and those weird emails! Love to have some intrigue mixed in with the romance. Now to wait months for volume 2

Kicking dogs that get uncomfortably close because the owners are apparently above using a leash and tripping obnoxious uncontrolled brats might be a bit extreme but slapping that parent was very satisfying to read. That specific fetish would probably sell since I don't think that market is in any way saturated.

Judging by stuff I've seen in deviantart threads there's DEFINITELY a market for that.

I think one or two people in here have read it and talked about it positively. I have not, because it's very long and I haven't been in the mood to tackle a slow-moving shoujo series of that length in a while. There are scans online that look like they're probably ripped straight out of the official tl so if she wanted to check a little of it out and see if it was worth buying the whole set, that's probably what I'd do. If she's buying them used it's not like the author is getting any benefit either way

Seems interesting so far; what was the main thing that disappointed you about it? Is it a worry about the codependency/romance/relationship nature of it, or the somewhat anomaly of the protagonist with his psychology insights out of nowhere? Or am I being silly and you are just referring to the protagonists unique fetish? I'm probably a crazy person, but for some reason the most intriguing part of this manga was the end of the first chapter, where the friend who betrayed her is getting really agitated trying to contact her. Like, I know we don't really have that much context on the friend's feelings, and from what little we've seen I guess she's just kind of a jerk, but the emotions involved in "I hurt my friend, and now I can't even contact her, and as far as I know she's vanished off the face of the Earth" just seem really... compelling to me? I want to see more of her. Which is probably a weird thing to feel when the focus on the series is absolutely not on that.
