My issue with Ghost is that they don’t even do anything slightly weird or unique or interesting past exactly what you would expect. It’s so safe. I honestly do appreciate their dedication to the stage show + ~band mystery~, it’s cool, but there’s just not a lot of depth anywhere. And that’s okay too, some people just want singalong rock/metal with a fun stage show and stuff to follow behind the scenes. Arthur Brown is still touring though. Go see him! But yes even as someone who has defended them before, man, it’s hard to muster up any energy to do that. They’re just not very compelling to me. I’ll hear a song and think huh okay that’s fun and then forget about it a day later. I understand why they’re popular but I don’t even find them fun to trash. It’s like yelling at top 40s pop music for being shallow and redundant. Anyway, here, have a nice treat I found on YouTube this morning Gorguts - Stiff and Cold (Pro footage 1998

Ghost is just cheesy hard rock/metal with catchy-rear end hooks, played by highly competent musicians and backed by competent and entertaining theatrics. Not everything needs to be über-brvtal or super technical or political or controversial. It's OK to have fun with some music that catches you easily, instead of having to really get into it to appreciate it. Fuggedabout the doom thread. Doing something groundbreaking is cool but IMO there's nothing wrong with doing an existing sound if you write good songs/have a fun live show.

Taking a bm break to go through RYM's charts for pm EP releases this year. My first click and I've already found something great, Endymion. I don't think I'm super on the nail with this comparison but it's an EP that sounds like it's made up entirely of Avantasia guest features rather than Tobias. Edit: this will be a short journey, there's only 5 EPs on the chart when I filter out what I've already heard.
