I've been thinking that studying abroad kind of disqualifies Uruka because then the end of the manga is either them being in a long distance relationship, Uruka failing so she doesn't study abroad/deciding not to study abroad, or Yuiga going to study abroad with her. None of which I can see happening.

I guess it depends whether we're moving to the end now. If the series is planning to continue a lot longer, you're probably right and recent events are just leading up to her exiting the cast.

edit: The ending ends up with an epilogue revealing that he broke up with whichever girl he ended up with after a year or two like a normal person and ended up with Sensei in his late 20s because he ended up teaching at or near her school and they're both teachers.

The latest series debut in Jump is about 4 boys who get stranded on an inhabitable planet and are presumably the only remaining humans. Then a space god appears and gives them a medicine that will magically turn one of them into a girl so they can propagate the species.

So I actually checked out the first chapter of Agravity Boys to see if that description was accurate.

https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/viewer/1006141

It sort of is, but the first chapter ends with them throwing away the potion and not using it, as well as them investing in the idea that other humans may come. So it makes me wonder what kind of story this series is actually going to wind up being-is it going to a monkey's paw style manga with the higher dimension being loving around with the 4 boys with something new every chapter, or will other people arrive and there be an actual plot?

I'll be honest, I don't see this one lasting long just because it doesn't seem either funny/diverse enough as a comedy, or grounded/detailed enough to have a serious narrative.

I find it amusing that the other three immediately start doting on the effeminate looking one soon after the deity gives them the potion making it quite clear what the plan is. Same for the dick to boobs ratio. There's a sort of Grand Blue level of stupid terribleness to them all doing that.

And yeah, no way this isn't getting loving canned and/or ended within ten chapters. The art nice though.

Yeah, I know they throw the potion out, question the god character, and point out there isn't enough genetic diversity for it to make sense but this is based off of a one-shot that was focused on that conceit being the primary gag. If it comes back or not will probably determine if this is Grand Blue in space or if it's something really loving terrible.

Question, given that Quintuplets and We Never Learn will likely end next year(confirmed for Quintuplets) it made me think, what was the last major romcom to hit it big that wasn't a harem or had a VERY OBVIOUS lead and best girl the protagonist was gonna pair up with?

He was one of Horikoshi's assistants. His assistants seem to pick up a LOT from him because both of his other assistants who have gone on to do their own published manga clearly have taken some style hints from him in various degrees.

Fumino is the best IMO; she's pretty unique for a love interest in a romcom like this, since she's pretty aware of the feelings of those around her (and her own feelings to a greater extent than your typical oblivious romcom love interest). If anything it feels like her main dilemma wouldn't be telling Yuiga how she feels, but being concerned about hurting the feelings of her friends. I feel like she could have an "equal" relationship with him more than someone like Ogata. The tiny senpai girl is also pretty good about being relatively smart and self-aware, though she's obviously not a potential "end-game" option.

It's a little hard to imagine Uruka being rejected given how much it's focused on her having a much stronger romantic commitment to Yuiga than any of the other characters, though.

In general I feel like mainstream shounen has been kind of promising in recent years; I'm not a big fan of Quintuplets, but both it and We Never Learn are significantly better than stuff like Nisekoi (though admittedly it seems to have split off the worst shounen romcom elements into that other manga about the inn that is basically softcore porn). WSJ has several very good and unique series, like Dr. Stone, Promised Neverland, and Chainsaw Man, and Jujutsu Kaisen, MHA, and Kimetsu no Yaiba are all quite good "battle shounen" series.

He did Yoakemono, a series about samurai that turn into furries that debuted at the same time as hero academia and got cancelled pretty quickly. It seemed all right, not obviously bad but I guess it didn't grab people. He also did Sahara the Flower Samurai, a pretty good little miniseries about a guy with plant powers trying to restore greenery in a desertified post-apocalypse, as well as a few miscellaneous one-shots. I like his style, thought the flower samurai was pretty creative, hopefully he's able to do something good here.

Pseudo Harem. :v:

But yeah, Kaguya definitely. Also Senryuu Shoujo and the Sono Bisque Doll cosplay one, though "hitting it big" may not quite fit that one yet.

Would have said Komi-San Can't Communicate for the first hundred chapters or so, but recently, uhhhh :tugs collar:

Love both of those and agree. A lot of these made me think that it's been quite a while since we had a "regular" romcom or harem series of this type where there's an obvious girl from the get go and it's just how we get there, they're day to day interactions, or them making it to the end game after all the usual romcom hazards.

In Komi-San I don't mind it quite as much since it's made clear that the relationship as friends shared between Manbagi and Komi is just as if not MORE important that the romantic relationship they'd share with Tadano. Like, this has to have been the most we've seen Komi verbalize her feelings in the entire series.

As for Agravity, I'm also in the camp that thought it sounded horrible at first but I actually thought it was really funny. It probably won't last long tho.

Speaking of funny, I am forever Mitama Security's sole fan and I sing its praises when I can. This week's chapter was laugh out loud funny. "Sorry I called you a squirrely piece of crap in my head."

This is actually the real world too. While modern series' have plenty of magic and spells too, Pretty Cure/PreCure (the original show, it's to Cutie Charm what Kamen Rider is to Zipman) does have its heroes punching the poo poo out of their baddies in addition to more traditional magical girl stuff.

Zipman rules.
