I'm just going to consider TLJ to have ended right where Kylo asked Rey to join him, about 1h45m in. As far as I am concerned, the last 45 minutes of TLJ do not exist.

I think that's what most people (myself included) who didn't like TLJ wanted. And if the argument is that Rey shouldn't take Kylo's hand because he isn't actually sincere about things, you write it so Kylo is sincere. But instead it's Empire vs Rebels, from now until the end of time.

I wonder if Rian Johnson will get his attempt at a trilogy back and if so, whether it will start at that literal moment I described. It still probably wouldn't be very good, but hey, it's something. In any case, I highly doubt we're going to see any mainline Star Wars movies again after this one. Good bye, Star Wars. You sucked for a large portion of your run.

I’d say they’ll crunch the numbers enough to realize that if Star Wars takes a break people will miss it again. I’d say 5 years for a new main trilogy movie. Heavy focus on the Disney+ stuff until then. Seeing Star Wars has definitely become less of an event since there’s been one coming out annually from 2015 on. Seeing the difference in opening night theatrics from TFA -> Solo was nuts. Will be curious how it is when I go next week.

They just needed something better to do with the rest of the characters than Holdo's Funtime Slowmo Chase. Basically everything that didn't involve Kylo or Rey was messy and forgettable (which oddly enough is the opposite of my ESB opinion, where I thought Luke's Swamp Adventures were okay but I was always much more captivated by the asteroid chase and Cloud City). I dunno, I feel like mainline Star Wars movies just aren't a great framework for a story about the 1% war profiteering.

I have no attachment to OT Luke so I found no issues with Luke in TLJ. I like the idea of somebody who was on top, failed at something, and withdrew because that failure made a bunch of people suffer. Cuz that tracks given what we know. I don’t understand why people are so mad about Luke.
