Ez breazy I came to this show hearing it's anime Ed, Edd, n eddy but it's like: Midori is Ed give or take. Tsubame is... Edward? I guess since Edd had strict parents. Sayaka is 100% Eddy. This is my take that you have to live with.

They don't fall 1:1 into the specific characters but they have the same vibe of three very different gremlin friends with big ambition.

Daunte Vicknabb posted:It's also worth noting that the thing going over it resembles the typical track crossing walkway you'll see at most smaller train stations in Japan. So just like every other location in the show it's very odd. Everything about the setting has a strong "adapting as best we can" energy.

McCracAttack posted:Everything about the setting has a strong "adapting as best we can" energy. There's a lot of ways this series tries to make you think about how it itself is made and this is one of my favorites. The characters talk about creating setting concepts, in a series that has this rich setting. I almost don't want them to ever say anything concrete about it, and just encourage you to ponder it the whole time.

IIRC, the story is set in the 2050s. So yeah, climate change is a thing.

Confession time: I've never actually seen Spongebob Squarepants As such, that one didn't tickle my fancy as much as the Mario or Gundam ones. It's still rad though, especially given that he did the whole OP.

Might change later, but right now we haven't seen much that indicates even a near future setting, and the big piles of old equipment feel more plausible now than they would be with another 30 years.

There is a calendar in the first episode that says "205--" on top, with the last digit obscured by the wall. You can see it in this clip. Not really sure how meaningful it is, since I haven't noticed any futuristic technology yet outside of Midori's imagination. Heck, it's not like Japan doesn't already have a few artificial islands.

Ah, hey, look at that. For the even more detail-obsessive (like me!): January on that wall calendar starts on a Sunday. The only year of the 2050's that starts on a Sunday is 2051.

They mention megacorps have been legislated away too, which doesn't seem very likely in our era.

I love Easy Breezy, and it just makes me wish this series had full vocal songs ala The Pillows in FLCL. Seems like it'd be a natural fit over Asakusa's daydreams.

What a goddamn enjoyable show! Really takes me back to when I was a kid and wanted to be an animator. I was super into art for a while, but then my parents pushed me into being a doctor. Which didn't even work out! Haha, my life is a failure... but this show is cute! Makes me feel all warm inside.
