Are you sure? In the Aus version of the show, one of the challenges was to build a set that would look good on the high-speed cameras when dropped/hit with a bat/thrown at a wall. It might just be a clip of that you're seeing.

Yep. I know a few people who are into that kind of thing and it's insane how much they'll pay for non-production parts - ie, parts that were never in a set. I've ended up with a couple of minifig heads with test print patterns and I could sell them for a lot if I wanted.

There's also people who will pay a lot for misprinted bricks, especially Star Wars. Those will sometimes pass through QC and pop up in sets on the shelf.
there used to be bionicle masks that were never supposed to go into production but they made a bunch of them and included them in the first run of the bionicle mask packs, but stopped after the first group of boxes, and only in the UK. they included solid colors(instead of the lighter versions for the turaga) and trans-light blue and trans-yellow kaukau masks.

these would go for huge amounts individually, I remember buying and reselling one of them for 80 bucks.

while looking for the above photo I found this, which made me laugh way harder than I'd like to admit

I wouldn't necessarily go that far but I did try to watch a gingerbread house building competition and instead of Christmassy joviality and tips for making sugar icicles there was a bunch of team drama and tense poo poo. I wanted holiday spirit, damnation!

The contrast between American and UK Kitchen Nightmares is so loving jarring.

I think "Nailed It!" might count as "American" "reality TV" and it's pretty ok. They should do the lego one like that (contestants are given a model/example they need to reproduce, judges decide who did the best job.)

Nailed It is good TV because it never punches down. It laughs with the contestants, not at them, and it’s never nasty.

I finished up the Ninjago Docks on Thursday night, and brought it in to my office on Friday. Somehow in all of the jostling I lost a single piece: the 1 x 2 money printed tile that sat in the slot of the vending machine.

I know I can just get a bill out of the ATM, but I'll know that one is missing.

It's one of the best sailing ships of any type that LEGO has ever done, with one huge flaw, which is the sails/rigging. The sails are too small and printed on only one side, the masts are too short, and the rigging is nonexistent. This is a pretty standard issue with LEGO ships, though.

That aside, it kicks rear end. The brick-built sculpted hull is great, the interiors are deeply detailed (including the best LEGO bed yet), and the bulkheads are awesome. Lots of color, cool techniques like the garage door roof, and a level of realism as all the interior spaces are connected and accessible. I really enjoyed building it and would have kept it, except I only have room for one big ship and I'm not getting rid of my Black Seas Barracuda.

I have some notes.
It's one of my favourite sets. I took it down from a bookshelf for the picture and man it is dus-ty.

As mentioned, the masts suck and there's no rigging but everything else is great! I swapped out the sails on mine for a less ostentatious look.

Going to echo the Destiny's Bounty talk. It is such a great and detailed piece and fun to build. They went so far as adding a Toilet to the drat thing. It also has a good scale to it as well.

Frankly all the Ninjago movie sets are superb. I never was into Ninjago, but the city, docks, bounty, and all the mechs are just so detailed and well designed.

I got the Bounty with my kids on the way home from the Ninjago movie, and the build and finish are what sold me on getting Ninjago City. Honestly, the entire line of Ninjago Movie sets are amazingly fun, sometimes just for the sheer ridiculousness of them. Seaplane shaped like a manta ray with an inflatable boat on top and a rear-firing crab cannon? Yes please. Giant one-wheeled mech controlled by turntables with shoulders that open up into a Fury Road Doof Wagon style speaker system? gently caress yes. Two-legged velociraptor-toed shark tank with ninja biting action? You betcha.

And the minifigs are over-the-top weird, and even the generic bad guy figs are pretty well done. Squid helmets, pufferfish helmets, the one guy from the Volcano lair with the tie-dyed shirt and the insanely huge beard.

The only two things I didn't like in that series were the Ice Tank and the Lightning Jet and I got them anyways for completeness sake.

Most of the time I really try to support my local toy store with purchases, but even though the ISS is out on the lego store, they don't have it yet and no ETA :( Supporting local vs getting it sent for $15 more plus free patch. Lego making this hard.

Ain't the ISS an exclusive? So even if smaller toy stores managed to get them, they basically have to sell them with next to no profit? Could be different in other countries, but IIRC it's that way in Germany, where the exclusives are only available from Lego plus a couple of bigger partners like Kaufhof and Toys r us, and smaller shops have to find a way to get them to sell them to customers.

e: argh, me dumb. I thought about the Imperial Star Destroyer (ISD), not the International Space Station (ISS). Reading is hard.
