I woke up this morning with sore throat and terrible headache and everyone I mentioned it to is all "BE CAREFUL, YOU MIGHT HAVE CORONAVIRUS" which I thought was ridiculous. Then I saw a news story that just got posted about 40 people possibly being exposed at an ESL school that's right on the subway line I take every day and, I'm embarrassed to admit, a little part of me went "gently caress gently caress gently caress, IMA DIE!"

snoo posted:can yall explain this, is this a tell-tale lung infection sign or something Colds typically have symptoms related to sinus/throat/lung membranes, sometimes affecting all three, sometimes it one or the other. This cold I have seems to be based in my respiratory system, every breath brings a tiny bit of ooze I can clear out (like clear my throat, not a full on cough so much)

I had a consistent dry cough with the tiniest bit of mucus (and gastrointestinal problems) for two weeks in january aside from about halfway through when I was drowning in mucus and having a little trouble breathing for a couple days nothing like any cold I've ever had

has anyone figured out how long quarantine needs to be yet? is the issue with the people coming out of quarantine infected a failure of procedure/testing or can people actually go dormant or whatever and then spontaneously become infectious again?

BIG PUFFY NIPS posted:has anyone figured out how long quarantine needs to be yet? part of why it's spreading so widely is the large incubation period plus it being infectious during that timeframe. you shouldn't get infected again and there's no evidence for that, but you are more vulnerable to other diseases just after it so can catch the cold/flu (or have them all together)

My company has stated that if you have any flu like symptoms to stay home and don't come in. Now that someone died locally(Washington state) I'm betting much of the state will stay at home on Monday.

Cause if the virus starts killing young people too instead of predominately the elderly, I might actually start taking it a little seriously. As it turns out, the person who died was a woman in her 50s.

Went out this morning to our local pan-Asian supermarket (99 Ranch, if you're a Californian). The lines were twice their usual Saturday-morning-let's-stock-up-for-the-week levels, and about a quarter of the people in line were wearing face masks. I just made a point of not touching my face until I'd washed my hands. At least I'll die with two bags of rice and some Cantonese fermented vegetables. They were all out of Thai peppers so I blame coronavirus somehow.

I wonder if there's really "only" 1000 infected in Italy. In the Netherlands now three different people have returned infected from Italy over the past few days. It seems unlikely that they all interacted with the same small group of people with the disease. The real number has to be at least a order of magnitude higher.
