If you even so much as think you might have it, get checked. My normal flu I posted about went away a whole week ago but I still have a cough, constantly running nose, and sweaty hands/feet so I'm getting checked. There is no reason not to get checked if you have the time/insurance/services necessary and are under the weather. The worst thing that'll happen if you don't have it is you get checked and they say you don't have it and you wasted your time. edit: Now is not the time to care about 'congesting the medical system'. The system exists to serve you, not the other way around.

There actually is if you don't have proper symptoms, and if you go and ask to get checked without adequate reason you'll get turned away and told to come back if your symptoms worsen. This is because they don't have infinite testing kits and infinite time to spend on everyone who wants one so as to avoid straining the medical system.

My family is all freaking out because we are flying to Amsterdam in a week. I'm just like stick to the original plan, and they will probably check our temperature on the way home? e: they were all trying to think of alternatives for a prepaid vacation and I was pushing Chile hard but they wouldn't have it.

Incidentally, I spoke with my doctor yesterday and asked him about Covid 19 and what he thinks of it, and he said that on an individual level there probably isn't any reason to be more concerned about this than other seasonal outbreaks and the standard "wash hands, don't touch face, stay home if sick" applies. Except for the elderly and immunocompromised ofc, who need to take stricter precautions. That said, this is Canada so ymmv
