Ugly In The Morning posted:China typically reports only 200 or less flu deaths a year, their reporting on anything disease related is intensely hosed. Can we compare their flu per capita to the US flu per capita then take the percent they appear to not be reporting and add that percentage to the COVID19 deaths that China reported? The raw numbers are likely wrong, but the curve is likely somewhat close at least. We have imperfect data and getting better data takes time and counting deaths in other countries. I'm just trying to think of ways to get the most complete information we can with what we got.

They reported 56 flu deaths in 2016, I’m pretty sure that if you tried the ratio is so skewed you couldn’t get anything usable. Not to mention the air pollution and state of Chinese healthcare (grab bags of antibiotics for everyone!!!) making for a completely different situation. E:outside estimates put the death count that year at more than 100k, so if you want to use the same ratio multiply everything by 2000 at the low end if they fudge the numbers the same way. It’s all speculation, though. Ugly In The Morning fucked around with this message at 21:38 on Mar 19, 2020 |

The problem is the flu deaths are incredibly underreported so trying to do anything with that number besides call bullshit on their coronavirus death toll is a fool’s errand.

Just took a voluntary one week vacation from work so I can relax a little while they figure out all this chaos. Not like I’ll be going anywhere in May anyway. Our field staff (ie. me) are not allowed to work from home so we are exposed multiple times daily to banks, large retail, factories, etc. Our union is hesitant to call it a health and safety issue because they are pretty sure the company will just say if we can’t work, they aren’t paying us. Although less and less of our clients have their doors open every day, so I think they’ll be laying us off in a week or two anyway.

ethical question should i feel at responsible if i get these boomers sick because they want to pay their loving phone bills in person? when will the liability be such that we, as a corporation, have to shut down or deny entry because boomers won't use alternative banking methods and the government is sitting on their hands?? lots and lots of mortgage appointments going on too with the lower rates, its hosed, if my roommate actually tests positive for covid then i for sure have it and have been contagious for at least a week now

Sockser posted:Some dudes just rang my bell and knocked on my door for a minute wearing orange vests The police in my town actually sent out an alert a few days ago not to open the door for strangers claiming they're there for like a coronavirus thing because it's a scam. (Common scam apparently in my area is to pretend you're from a utility company or sthg, have one person chat you up while another goes inside your house and steals poo poo or whatever.) Either way I ain't opening my door for poo poo. Monday I was expecting a somewhat pricey delivery so when they knocked on my door I jumped up and was there within 5-10 seconds. Package safely on the ground but literally no sign of the person who delivered it or their vehicle. Talk about being a master at social distancing.

I missed that gun chat but I've also been periodically considering grabbing one, when I get real bored. If the local wal-marts still sold them (they might I don't know) then I'd be fine to grab a shotgun and some shells/bullets/the projectile things that make the wounds. But I've never shot a gun in my life so that would be dumb as gently caress, any firearm would be functionally useless to me in a self defense situation. I would do much better with, almost anything, baseball bat, machete. Instead of a gun, I went and got even more weed and a case of my favorite liquor, and some bottles of wine, so that'll have to hold me instead of randomly blowing my own nuts off in the middle of the night. The funny thing is how easy it would be, I have no record and live in VA, I could be swimming in guns and bullets after whatever waitng period, no training, no license. We may have too many rights.
