I'm still amazed that when I ordered a bidet seat last week, I was looking through like 40 of them on Amazon at normal price. And 8 hours later literally every single one was sold out except resellers/gougers asking a 1000% markup. loving insane. Bidet trip report. One of the best things I ever bought pandemic or not.

Hopper posted:Italy's health system is overwhelmed, they are triaging and this means people die because they don't have enough ventilators. People are also isolating at home for a while and I asked that means many cases that pop up are severe ones that were mild cases at home and then had to go into hospitals. So the issue in Italy is somewhat interesting. Northern Italy loves selling its fine goods, like leather and clothes and poo poo. But it's only really good if it has "Italian made" on it. And for that, well it needs to be made in Italy. So what Italy has done is imported Chinese workers to do the manufacturing, specifically from Wuhan.

Just got back from downtown Montreal, had to go get my last paycheck from the now closed restaurant I started working at 2 weeks ago. Busses are free, since you have to enter at the back to avoid interaction with the driver. The sign on the red tape says "COVID19 PREVENTION - Do not cross the yellow line for the safety of the driver" In total I took 3 bus trips and the max amount of people with me was about 6 people at one point. Getting off in downtown near Place des Arts was eery as gently caress. This is a saturday afternoon, beautiful and sunny, usually it's a sea of people. I got off around President Kennedy street and I had to call someone immediately to describe the scene just to remind myself not everyone's dead. Nobody on the sidewalk, no car in the street, it was straight out of 28 days later. Sainte-Catherine was a bit more inhabited but still super quiet and mostly deserted. Everytime I'd hear conversations passing by people, everything I'd hear was the stuff of apocalypse. It's absolutely insane how everything changed in such a short amount of time. I got really scared for the future of us all in the middle of the last bus trip. One guy suddenly turned around to the people behind him to talk really fast about the americans sending 30,000 troops to Europe, all of them vaccinated, in order to [I tried to block him out with headphones at this point]. As I left he was talking even faster about the central banks having planned all of this 7 years ago. (or was it 5?) Of everyone I saw downtown the proportion of crazies was so much higher than before. Someone left this near the seat I had on the bus. Dated from yesterday. They're supposed to turbo clean all busses and subways everyday now so I like to think an STM employee decided to leave it there. I live on one of the worst streets in Canada, Hastings in Vancouver, pretty well in the eipicentre of homeless, panhandlers, and drug addicts. Very little has changed here, though some of the "regulars", people who have panhandling for years, have disappeared. They're being replaced by what I assume are the quasi marginal drug addicts who may have been able to get by couch surfing, squatting, getting into hostels in better times etc. These guys are a different breed, more abrasive and hungry, not aware of the unwritten rules (e.g. don't panhandle inside businesses, don't follow people down the street continually asking them for money, other hypocritical "norms" the community enforces). Based on behaviour seeing people on meth early in the mornings, and opiates late at night.

Just watched a 2018 BBC documentary on iPlayer. "The Flu that killed 50 million" No idea why I decided to deliberately bum myself out. It's on Dailymotion for all you non UK people if you want. Be warned, it's a bit gruesome, and the dramatization bits suck imo, but some of the scientist pondering "what if" from 2 years ago is sort of interesting. Makes u think https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7rk1ld

Thanks, but I'm not really complaining, I've lived here for years and am used to its idiosyncrasies. But I am interested in how this will effect people who society has mostly forgotten anyway. Like social distancing is a joke to these people, as obviously is sheltering in place. This is a highly vulnerable population and I'm curious as to what, if any measures will be taken. I'm seeing a lot less ambulances and deaths in general. During the fentanyl crisis I'd usually see someone die about once a month.

Snowglobe of Doom posted:People are loving LIVID here in Australia because there's all these rumours going around that busloads of city folk are driving out to country towns to raid their supermarkets and buy up all their toilet paper and hand sanitizer. People are starting to confront strangers in supermarkets and one manager hired security guards to check IDs at the door and there's been a whole bunch of newspaper articles. There's lots of chatter happening on social media as well, usually with a bit of the ol' racism thrown in for good measure (the out-of-towners are often described as being Asian in appearance). The Minster for Home Affairs, Peter Dutton, also had a rant about gangs of people buying up toilet paper and essential supplies so they can sell them overseas. I predict the first person actually shot at a grocery store because of coronavirus will be in rural Georgia

As far as news goes, the spike in positives is mostly due to increased testing, and the number of deaths in the US dropped for a day. Is there any good news anywhere though? China’s “no new cases” doesn’t count, they’ve been lying about this whole thing pretty consistently, it’s about as believeable as their sub-200 yearly flu deaths reported.
