So what's the deal with these new drugs or anti-virals or whatever? I hear some people talking like we just found the cure and all the hospitals are gonna get this stuff and the virus will be dead in a week. Sounds like some fantasy to me but I dunno really know the deal.

We just got our first confirmed case at the hospital I work at. We’re considered essential personnel (biomed), and they’ve even moved us over to teams working a day on then a day off. However, I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference considering the gestation period and the initial bungled response. It’s likely that many more individuals in the unit are positive, and we’re awaiting many more test results. Also, maps are typically days behind fwiw

It's either that or a STAT right now. Basically it's a 50/50 mix of either something incredibly dumb or completely deadly to the point that their pet is half dead when they bring it in. And that's just more stress than usual because the usual mix is 1/3 dumb, 1/3 bad and 1/3 half-dead.

I am shocked. My Republican Boomer parents are taking this extremely seriously, staying home, canceling all social engagements, and have stopped having pizza night with their closest friends because their friends' daughter (who lives with said friends) is a physical therapist and can't self-isolate as a result. No bridge, no church... They might pull through. Despite their flaws, I love them dearly, and so do my kids, so I am glad they are not being idiots about this.

So, basically they're starting to test this in NY this week with particularly bad cases in hospitals and they'll see how things go from there.

Either German geriatrics are immune to the virus, or nobody is seriously testing a lot of people. France is sitting around 15k cases since a week or so, but has close to 700 dead. 5% death rate UK has 5k cases, but over 300 dead. 6% death rate. Germany is closing in on 30k cases, but has like 120 dead. 0.4% Now granted, Germany has the most ICU beds in Europe, but the data also says that there are as of yet few patients in the ICU, while France's hospitals are collapsing. Which means that the 16k number must be complete and utter bullshit. So even though Germany is the only large country with low death rate, chances are good that data is actually closer to the "truth" than elsewhere, and all the case numbers we see in Italy, Spain, UK, France etc. are completely underestimating what's going on.
