I think he was claiming it might inflate the total mortality by 2-3%, not that 2-3% of kids would die. I mean, it's still horrific and stupid (much like every other aspect of Dr. Oz) but it's not quite as bad as all that.

It always seems to happen with a virus or some other bad thing after it has been around for a while, people forget that you don't want the virus to infect anyone (or forget about the virus itself that started this) if it can be helped instead want to speed up to get to the end. It's like a cartoon I saw ages ago where they wanted to get rid of a super slow motion explosion in their house by speeding it back up so it finishes exploding.
