A week and a half ago I had a follow up appointment for my shoulder (broken scapula that's not healing properly). The doctor said that I might need a CT scan to see if I need surgery. I heard two days ago that I have an appointment to get a CT scan, but after that I will have to see a specialist and talk with him about the possibility of surgery. Given that this is during a pandemic, I was expecting a bit of a wait.

I'm going in on the 7th of May, 2020. And I see the specialist in nine days.

Exit, got the appointments out of order. Fixed

fairly like this is the administration's actual strategy. simply declare the virus "over", restrict testing as much as possible, start trying to pressure hospitals/coroners all over the country to categorize deaths as "flu" or "pneumonia" or "stroke" in an effort to keep numbers down, meanwhile pressuring states to reopen so that anyone who doesn't go to work has "quit their job" and cant get unemployment

I had a pretty important test scheduled for a heart issue but they couldn’t get me in for 2 months

Then they called and got me in a week earlier! Hooray! Except the DAY BEFORE they called and told me that my insurance denied covering the test and so it was cancelled.

Also I’m sure it would be hella expensive since my meet and greet with the cardiologist cost $300 despite it being half covered.

Now I have a different test.... set for 2 months from now. That I will have to pay for. Canada seems cool.

A yearly physical is worth doing just to monitor blood pressure and blood sugar. It's easy to be hypertensive and diabetic for a long time without ever knowing it, and they're two conditions that are easily managed. Also they will gently caress your poo poo up if they go untreated

It doesnt have to be a doctor, even a nurse to perform home visits on everyone and make referrals for those who need further work up. Would save a lot of money and problems for everyon involved

A routine bloodwork keyed in my doctor that my drinking was out of control and she told me to knock it the hell off before I damage something. I actually didn't realize I was at problem levels. Many people have skewed ideas of what constitutes excess. It's easy to figure that if something is not causing any obvious problems, then it isn't a problem.

Wish there were better monikers for differentiating between Authoritarian, Totalitarian, and Dictatorship regimes (Nazi Germany/China/Russia/North Korea) that hide under the name of Socialist or Communist versus the real definition of Socialism and Communism (Communism of which has never existed in any country).

Like, the "National Socialist German Worker's Party" sounds pretty loving rad at first glance: (Hmmm? A social safety net/social services based government that puts importance on the lower and middle class workers of Germany which is probably Democratic by default! Cool!)

Then the "Oh gently caress me..." moment comes when you find out that the above moniker is synonymous with Nazis.

The term Socialism has been dragged through the mud so god drat much that the first thing that pops up in many people's minds is: Nazi Germany/Russia/China/North Korea. I don't even know if you can ever divorce those viewpoints from the definition of the word anymore.

Wish there was a word for a form of government called "Not being an rear end in a top hat-ism" but way more catchy.

outside of the United States there are countries where political parties are openly able to use labels like "Democratic Socialist" or even just "Socialist" without that being immediate political suicide or making everyone think immediately and only of nazi germany and north korea

the issue isn't the word, any word can and will be abused. most people agree the idea of honesty is good, but would you automatically believe anything spouted by a political party calling themselves the "honesty party"?

We're at the point in this country where everything, absolutely everything, can and will be politicized. There is no longer such thing as a benign issue. And this is outside the normal "political" spheres like economics, foreign policy, and social movements. It pervades entertainment, sports, food, fashion, spending habits, and other mundane aspects of daily life. It is as if the two sides feel obligated to fight each other just for the sake of it, no matter how petty the issue. That if the great battle is not maintained at full ferocity on even the smallest front, they have squandered a valuable opportunity to hurt the enemy (which, coincidentally, is their only actual war goal).

In Blistering Whistleblower Complaint, Rick Bright Blasts Team Trump’s Pandemic Response

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/05/whistleblower-complaint-rick-bright-blasts-team-trumps-pandemic-response

quote:

He was pressured to invest in drugs and vaccines that lacked scientific merit, because the people selling them had friends in the Trump administration, up to and including the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. He was forced to transfer funds to acquire drugs for the Strategic National Stockpile, America’s most important reserve of lifesaving medications, based not on health needs but on “political connections and cronyism.” He was instructed to use his department’s budget to purchase flu medications of questionable efficacy. And when the COVID-19 crisis erupted, he was pressured to approve a plan that would “flood” cities with unproven and untested doses of chloroquine drugs, from uninspected manufacturing plants in Asia. When his efforts to work through the system failed, he decided he had a “moral obligation to the American public” to ring the alarm about the plan, “which he believed constituted a substantial and specific danger to public health and safety.” In retaliation, he was “smeared,” with officials unfairly accusing him of dropping the ball on vaccine development and PPE preparation.

These are just some of the allegations contained in a blistering, 63-page complaint that Dr. Rick Bright, former head of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), filed today with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel. According to his lawyers, Bright will testify before Congress next week.
