At a certain point it is legit cheaper to start making your own. We had a guy staying with us a few months ago, and we accidentally ate what was left of a jar of pesto he was using for pasta. He was mind blown when we realised and apologised before quickly making up some more using fresh basil from the garden with some pine nuts and parmesan. He'd never actually considered what was in it before and didn't realise you could make it yourself easily. This isn't a construction story, but the fact someone suggested making pesto with dried basil reminded me that there are people out there who don't know the joy of making your own.
