Agravity Boys Girls was sadly kind of yikes this week. I was looking forward to dumb hijinks with the gang turning into girls, buuuut instead we get lots of surface-level gender jokes. I was a little worried at first that Geralt became dumb when he turned into a girl, but it was explained as all the major character traits flipping so that made sense. But then they're also all overly emotional cus women, amirite fellas?? There were a couple okay jokes with the other crew's reaction but otherwise it wasn't a great chapter.

Mashle was great this week, except for the teaser that Mash might be some chosen one or something. I'm hoping it's a setup for some long-term joke, though. Part of the charm is Mash is just some dumb kid who trained real hard, not anyone born special or anything. The plot twist of him potentially getting expelled could be interesting though, I love a good status quo shakeup.

Magu-chan - Hermit Crab Catapult!
Roboco was soo good.

Actually, HB also points out that there are other side effects like being over emotional. It was an amusing chapter that overstayed it's welcome. I do wonder what will happen next though.

Seems like Ayakashi may be getting cancelled? I read someone saying it seemed like it was heading into it's final fight so I checked it out. This feels like end game. So I guess 2020 may end okay. A new USA president, Ayakashi triangle canceled. Come one 2020, go out on a high note!

Edit: Maguchan - Wow this chapter was sweet.

Ayakashi Triangle is selling like hotcakes.
Why would it be in any danger of getting the axe?

The current battle feels pretty climactic I guess, and the gender swap thing being undone when it initially seemed to be a big part of the premise is a pretty significant development. That said, that could be either something that intermittently comes back or is reset to seal Shirogane again, or it was never intended to be permanent from the start.

I can see this going into a few directions. Maybe it's not permanent and we're going into a Ranma direction or something.

If it does end soon then I think this was always meant to be a fun short story in the first place.

Yeah I was surprised as well. But with the seal undone, the curse undone and the cat realizing it likes the girl it just feels like endgame.

The best part about this week's Roboco was the HxH reference, what with the referee's attire and one of the announcers being a dog person.

On a similar note, how are the live action films?

I liked them. They do a surprisingly good job of translating anime action into live action for the fights.

It's still going but I feel like "Watsuki is a pedo who owned child pornography" is kinda a big issue when you're asking if people are still willing to read his manga.

Good point. Kind of surprised a convicted pedophile is still working in the industry honestly (which is a shame as I kind of liked the original anime/manga).

I loved One Piece but knowing Oda helped Toriko’s author get back after a pedo charge is a bridge too far. Same thing with Watsuki. gently caress all 3 of them for being or vouching for monsters.

Wait a second. Act-Age's swift cancellation came from the executive decision-making at Shueisha. Shounen Jump looks more like a sex ring propped up and run between Oda and his friends, and that it's executives are too scared to consider anything other than WE NEED MONEY WE DO NOT CARE.

I was pleasantly surprised with how fast the action was with Act-Age. I feel terrible for the artist, but if this was even 10 years ago it could've gotten swept under the rug because Act-Age was taking off and had a TON of stuff in production.

An anime was likely in pre-production, there was a stage play, JVC had a big partnership they were going to do with Yonagi as a virtual model for their stuff in real ads, etc.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Oda gets the boot as soon as One Piece is finished.

Yeah, I really doubt that. The only way Oda is getting out of Shonen Jump is if he decides to, or if he is forced to by his failing health. He is too profitable and famous and I fear that the amount of Shonen Jump readers that actually care about him saving and supporting his sex pest friends is pretty small.

The Toriko author is definitely creepy but was probably able to come back because of the law he broke

Well the age gap answer is given as "absolutely most plausible minimum" so it at least avoids a bit of the weirdness inherent in the dynamic.

With Act-Age’s author getting canned, I can only assume Oda’s word helped a bit in them leaning towards taking him back. I think the guy also got hit for Tax fraud too.

I mean lets be honest. Going to bat for one of them could maybe be friendship before ethics, two says Oda's a creep too.

i'm not defending what the toriko guy did cos anyone in their late 20s loving a 16 year old is bad and creepy but the only reason he broke the law in japan is cos he paid for it. seems like the kind of thing that they're far more willing to let slide for good sales vs what the act-age guy did. this is also the case here in the UK

Granted the reason is that Japan just simply doesn't consider it much of a crime, but Watsuki got to come back and he got busted just a couple of years ago now.

i'd consider him as having more sway compared to Shimabukuro back during his first(?) popular series when he was caught but who knows. when you compare Watsuki with the Act-Age situation it's at least apparent there

Note: gently caress all these dudes this is not meant as a defense just talking about marginal differences.

Watsuki is marginally different as far as "justifications" go as he broke a law that was only changed recently relative to his crime.

I think the law changed in like 2014 or 2015 about possession of it, and Watsuki was caught in 2017(2018?) with that poo poo.

Act-Age's writer literally rode up to some young girl on a bike and molested her on the street on some real creeper sexual assault poo poo.
