He was originally a junior but had a really bad leg break and couldn't do much athletically after that, especially to the standards of a promotion like All Japan. Which is why he reinvented himself as a hardcore guy a few years later.

I cannot work out if Yoshitatsu slapping Chikara is meant to be a heel or face move.

Will say that despite the opening matches on this All Japan show being well below average (why do you book Alejandro and not have him do anything cool and flippy?) at least they've flown by. 3 matches in under 45 minutes and honestly feels even less, despite only 1 of the 3 matches actually being even "average opener" quality.

At least this NEXTREAM Enfants match has picked things up

Abby Kobayashi & Daisuke Sekimoto are challenging Kento & Yuma for the tag titles on the Excite Series tour, while apparently we're getting a Purple Haze vs Purple Haze All Asia Tag Title match as well.

Black Menso-re just demasked by Kasai like it's nothing is pretty funny. No towel or attempt to cover his face, just straight into the bamboo skewers

Kasai vs Yoshitatsu was better than this tbh. Still the best match of the show so far though

Oh hey, Ishikawa is challenging Kasai. Pretty sure Shuji just said death match? Cool

According to Tokyo Sports, Hideki Suzuki has left Japan on a one way plane ticket. He said he has no plans to return to Japan, and that he's not planning to wrestle. The article speculates that he's got a full time gig at the WWE Performance Center after doing a guest stint there two years ago but ends with "who can say for sure..." (translation mine but the ellipsis are there in the original which makes me think maybe he has other plans, could just be wishful thinking on my part)

Aside from Violent Giants that's a good tag team list (can't say I've seen much of SANADA & Takagi tagging). Probably would have had CHANGO & Kaji Tomato on my ballot too.

Been watching the NOAH show that just went up today. Anyway, features Kenoh defending his National belt against Murakami and it's well worth a watch. Spoilers about what's next for the title

Kenoh got the submission victory in 9:40 after Murakami passed out in a rear naked choke. Masakatsu Funaki came out to challenge Kenoh and Kenoh accepted, and weirdly wasn't chippy about it. That'll happen at the Nippon Budokan show and I suspect it'll steal the show

Was trying to find out which DG shows are on the Network next month & noticed they've uploaded Dragongate Future, which is just short exhibitions with trainees, dark matches. But hey, if you want to see the next Shun Skywalker or El Lindaman before they get their gimmicks, you can watch that if you have a DG Network account.

(To answer my own question, there's 3 shows on the schedule for February, with the Korakuen show on the 5th having English commentary)

It’s a weird schedule next month. Korakuen on the 5th. Two shows in Kyoto on the 21st and 23rd. Kobe should be on the network, but they aren’t running Sambo (it was already rented) on the 26th.

Plus the Champion Gate doubleheader in Osaka is a week later into March this year. Just the slowest part of DG’s calendar.

Ryoji Sai turned on Bodyguard after the first show, and then on the second show they paid off his new partner GAINA to turn on him. Hating Land's End is the best part of Colega. They really showed just how despicable they are by carrying the Union Jack to the ring yesterday. (There was a funny spot in the main event where Daimonji threw the flag over the referee's head to stop him seeing Sai cheating and then claimed it fell from the ceiling when the referee got it off)
