They're both good but I'd disagree, the first one is basically perfect and 2 felt a lot shaggier to me

Which one has Maggie Cheung smashing a cake into his face while he's holding a phone so that there is a frosting outline of a phone on his face afterwards? That's the better one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWAu83FPMYc It's interesting how action movies from some countries translate easily to western audiences (like those from east asia) and some don't (like those from India). I have seen only a handful of russian action movies, but I'm sure they produce just as many as any other place. My favorite russian action movie is the remake of Commando, called D Day or Den D, which is nearly identical to the original but without the campiness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFbFhSgutTw

I really want a good Stalker movie. I mean, I know there's the Tarkovsky film which is an unimpeachable classic (it is really amazing) but I'd love one kind of like the games too. Ideally a blend of early Villeneuve, David Michod and The Way of the Gun.

We're so used to CGI that shocking how dangerous they actually are when you realize those are real people and real fires. there's a bit of tonal whiplash, where top tier crazy jackie chan stunts exist alongside his life falling apart in various ways. The scene where the villains read out May's break up letter to both of them is actually heartbreaking and wouldn't be out of place in a more serious movie.

I think for me the characters just had more room to breathe in Police Story 2, and I enjoyed their interactions. Like the chief(or superintendent I think he's technically called) seemed like he had a lot more opportunities for entertaining little moments. And overall for me the action was just as good, even if no individual action scene was as good as the mall fight. The restaurant fight at the beginning, the playground fight, and the finale are all some of the best stuff I've ever seen Jackie do.

I'm assuming most people in this thread are already familiar with them, but the french Taxi series has some fun car chases and stunts in them. The actual stories are nothing, they're just sort of medium action-comedies. All the car stuff is great fun though. The third one even has a little bit part with Stallone at the beginning. Just don't watch the american remake.

I'm watching Warrior on HBO Max and it's good. It's not ideal, not perfect, too modern in some elements and not immersive (specifically dialog), but it has some good production quality to it and it's a fun time.

I watched Lockdown with Guy Pearce, Peter Stormare and Maggie Grace last night. The Wiki tells me that John Carpenter sued the studio for ripping off Escape from NY/LA (and won), but still, it was better than most homages to that series. And it’s got Cassidy from Preacher as a space convict! Escape from LA by way of Fortress 2 with goofy rear end videogame visuals. Gonz fucked around with this message at 04:01 on Jan 30, 2021 |

Narzack posted:It's kinda like Heart of the Dragon, that one is kinda all over the place, though Police Story 2 is more firmly in the action camp There's a few Chan films from that era, where, for most of its length, it's a legal drama or light romantic comedy or something, a regular film. And then, for about ten minutes, it's a cavalcade of top tier Jackie Chan insanity. Dragons Forever is similar in this regard. The number of pure action films he made is actually kind of small. morestuff posted:Lockdown is fun and Guy Pearce should have had a bigger career He seems pretty content with the one he's got. Finishing out January. I also watched a new movie "Haymaker" that seems from the poster like it would be a Muay Thai action movie but it's actually a Hallmark Romance that sucks. So don't get tricked like I did. Warrior (2011) - 3/5, Amazon Prime If I'd bothered to watch this any time close to when it was new, I probably would have declared it one of my favorite movies. But in 2021, the world's different and I'm different, and I'm jaded enough now that I noticed a lot of corny things to pick at that took me out of it a little. Things in Warrior Engineered to Terrorize Me: - Kurt Angle plays Fedor and does a pro wrestling powerbomb in a shoot fight - Bryan Callen plays Joe Rogan - Nick Nolte is seen hanging out with Skyscrape from Tapout - Four fights in two nights including scheduling the finalists to fight up to 8 rounds in one night Movie was too long but the ending was good. Casino Royale (2006) - 3/5, Amazon Prime I know I'm dumb as hell but I can never figure out what is going on in these drat movies. Do they think people are going to not see them if they don't have a FOURTH double-crossing guy trying to steal the big diamond? I was getting all hyped up during the first part of the movie because there's so much cool, varied action. I knew there was poker so I thought that would be exciting, but it was done very poorly and as a result there's a solid hour plus of this movie where nothing is happening. Movies don't have to be 144 minutes long, cut some of that crap out. As a whole, the movie was fine, I guess. The Courier (2012) - 1/5, Tubi Early in the film, Jeffrey Dean Morgan gets into an interesting fight that is chopped to hell via editing, and then Lili Taylor and Miguel Ferrer show up as a married assassin couple. These two things tricked me into thinking this might have a chance of being a good movie. It's not. The editing all around is atrocious, the plot sucks, and the ending is actually insane. Josie Ho is SO bad and Mickey Rourke is filmed from behind for all but the last 5 minutes of the movie. This one is so bad it might honestly circle back around to being good, but for me it was a painful watch. Below Zero (2021) - 3/5, Netflix Pleasant surprise to find this one dropped onto Netflix. Tense thriller that does tend to oscillate from low to high, but the lows aren't too low, just that it's a little dull and slow in parts. The highs are spectacular bursts of violence that catch you off-guard and hit hard. My biggest complaint is that I wanted there to be more of the characters I found most interesting than is in there. Still, there was probably about 10 minutes that could have been trimmed out of this to make it tighter. It's not a movie that will end up being rewatchable, but I can still recommend it especially if you like thrillers or action.

this looks cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXPt5xEpWDw Avenging Force is probably my favorite Cannon flick, a logic-free plot that is much more mean spirited than most Cannon movies, and Michael Dudikoff and Steve James get to do some fun stuff in it.
