True, but they need ratings, especially on that channel, and Dobbs' was by far their highest rated show. The article I read even said he was helping with lead in/out ratings so canning him seems weird. I get the feeling that FOX splintered a bit between the sycophants/true believers and the people who still think they're doing actual journalism and news reporting who are there merely to balance out the bias of CNN and the "mainstream". Something reached a head.

Clipping Dobbs doesn't make a whole lot of logistical sense to me unless it had something to do with money (the lawsuit) OR he got a little too weird about actually believing the MAGA voter fraud bullshit and clashed with ownership who know its a con. FBN is ostensibly a BUSINESS channel, albeit one no serious business person actually takes seriously and one that is designed for the rubes that constitute FOX's base. Still "crazy" isn't particularly good for business. Maybe FOX found out if they kept him on, they're financial legal obligations required them to defend his case as well as their own and that, by firing him, he's now on the hook to pay lawyers for his OWN legal defense. Also, FBN in court can now point to his termination as proof that they weren't on board with smearing Smartmatic and Dominion, who both appear to not be loving around, and probably use that in their defense if this poo poo starts going not their way.

It smells to me like retroactive damage control more than anything.

Pretty sure the CEO's of those software companies are fairly rich and I don't care who you are you don't gently caress with rich people's money or power. That's where the rubber meets the road for most Republicans. RWM noise is good at keeping the rubes, Jesus heads, blue collar wage earners, MLM "business owners" and a few 401k watchers in line while they paint public employees and welfare recipients as boogeymen. But for the real power players and everyone who knows it's a show, anything that costs them a lot of money is something not to be hosed with.

We're not talking about airing endless segments targeting publicly funded organizations like ACORN, Planned Parenthood, PBS, EPA or the USPS where attacking them falls right in line with the GOP and RWM railing against the government and it's stupid socialism things. We're talking about newscasters openly calling out the very system that keeps those people rich and in power. I would think that "we get to build the voting machines and the software that tally the elections which keep lawyers, banks, energy companies and big CEO's in positions of power" in ways that destroy faith in that very process would be valuable to them and not something to openly trifle with.

Dobbs' bullshit actually seems to be costing some powerful people a not insignificant amount of money here, even if it's just legal fees and settlements alone on a fake "BUSINESS" channel, and firing your top rated host has to mean something. We're not settling sexual harassment and misconduct allegations out of court here which, not to belittle those things at all, cost a drop in the bucket relative to fighting back against companies that can actually afford to be dragged through court with lawyers that aren't working on contingency.

TL/DR: ^^^Bolded for emphasis.^^^ Lou Dobbs is somehow costing FBN and some very rich people too much money. Also gently caress Lou Dobbs and I'm happy to throw him on the pile.

Didn't Dobbs insist on continuing with the stolen election crap though, when even Hannity and Carlson know to back the gently caress off?

Again a very likpatous story
It seems like it's specifically what kind of election fraud you're espousing. Rush talks about how the election was stolen constantly, so does Hannity. However they're claiming that it was stolen through the "usual" methods: mail in ballot fraud, illegals voting, people voting multiple times, Trump ballots being wrongly discarded, and "suitcases of ballots." None of these are getting Fox News Radio slapped with a lawsuit because they're generic claims not about any specific entity.

Lou Dobbs seems to be sticking with the Dominion/Smartmatic theories and those are lawsuit worthy though, and if he won't cut it out then firing him is the safest choice they have.

Dobbs is targeting some pretty big well connected companies here with what I assume must be deep pockets. You don't get to run the voting machines and tabulation software without making a few friends from both sides of the political aisle and proving your integrity. At least I wouldn't think. It's why we don't hold elections on Yahoo! polls, Re-tweets and Facebook likes. Fair, free and above the board elections benefit both parties.

The GOP propaganda arm of the party doesn't mind obfuscating reality or even picking on specific people so long as they're powerless or publicly funded. But Dominion and Smartmatic are hired and paid specifically to tabulate votes and, short of a 100% deal to reap the benefits and kickbacks of a full fascist takeover, have nothing to really gain by straight up rigging the system.

It's why they're suing. Dobbs and his ilk are directly affecting their business. The powers tht be and people in control know this is really BAD and they have a serious problem...Frankenstein Unleashed, etc.

Problem is, if/when they win these companies win the lawsuit or settle, the RWM and Q heads will just see it as further proof of the Deep State and there's still way too many of those types for me to feel comfortable. Several of them are in our government and grew up believing all this poo poo. The lords of it and the think tanks who hatched it all know better but were too busy counting money to worry about the end game.

No True Run of the Mill Conservative "gently caress the Poor/Lower My Taxes" Reagan Republican really believes this RWM and evangelical bullshit. Or at least they didn't used to. But the proverbial eggs have hatched.

Kinda disagree on one point there. "Free, fair elections " really only benefit one party. The other party is gearing up at the state level for all kinds of election fuckery: making absentee and mail in voting harder, diddling with certification of elections, reducing voting places, gerrymandering, ID laws, anything to make it harder for people to easily vote. They have over 100 bills in dozens of states with R controlled legislatures.

This won't protect them from a lawsuit, if they actually didn't want to get sued they would give him back his money and refuse to air his film. You can't get out of a libel lawsuit by airing a thing all day and saying "Whoa but hey we don't endorse any of this, honest." Especially when the very last part of the disclaimer is "But it might be true anyway!"

I think the disclaimer is just so they can talk about how "But we said we didn't endorse it, those liberal judges are just so biased against us!"

So I guess if local sports talk radio in a small town is any indication, throw Mark Cuban on the pile of of people who hate America that are worthy of a boycott since he decided just not to play the star spangled banner at his team's basketball games. Which is the right choice but in this country unless your constantly saluting the flag and pledging allegiance to it, you're a dirty commie or something.

There's no reason to play the SSS at sporting events in the first place - or really any event that's not July 4th or something - but we're living in a world where Republicans just tried to introduce a bill requiring congress to open every session with the Pledge of Allegiance and got all pissy faced when Democrats were like "really?"

Going to write my congressman requesting a bill requiring me to carry a bible, a flag and a pocket constitution with me at all times in my vehicle. I bet the dumb fucker would go for it.

The last article on his wretched website seems to be from Feb 2

quote:

RUSH: The ruler of Michigan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, is graciously and generously allowing restaurants to resume indoor dining. She took credit for the state’s COVID numbers dropping, due to the “targeted and temporary pause” that she ordered in November.

The governor thanked all those who made “incredible sacrifices and did their part.” She said she knows the pandemic has hurt restaurant owners, workers, and their families.

Governor Whitmer. The pandemic hurt those who got the coronavirus. What hurt restaurant owners, workers, and their families was the tyrannical response to the pandemic from Democrat governors like you.

Other governors, like Republicans Kristi Noem of South Dakota and Ron DeSantis of Florida, chose a different path. They allowed businesses to stay open. And guess what? When it comes to coronavirus cases, their states are doing better than the states that shut down the economy and threw thousands of people out of work, and forced many business owners to lose their livelihoods.

It’s easy for Democrat Governors like Gretchen Whitmer, Andrew Cuomo, and Gavin Newsom to just say “thanks,” giving lip service to those who made incredible sacrifices during this pandemic. Meanwhile, their business — politics — never shut down. Government workers never missed a paycheck, and never lost a job to COVID. Only the little people had to worry about that!
